"Darlings Are Coming" with Wrong Theme Song - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I bought one episode on two different DVD's for a $1.00 each at Target. The episodes are duplicate along with different movies on two DVD's each like "Li'l Abner" from "Family Funnies" and "Life With Father" from "America Laughs". I know that the opening to the "Andy Griffith Show" had the wrong opening theme song.

What's wrong with this picture?

Due to a mistake, sixteen TAGS episodes' copyright expired and they entered into public domain. That means anyone can reproduce those eps and sell them without paying royalties. The TAGS theme music is under a separate copyright and is still in force so rather than pay royalties on it the DVD producers replaced the original theme with other music.

That's right! I thank PC Treasures released 1 movie with the Andy Griffith episode and a cartoon. The updated theme song on DVD was cheesy except the closing theme. I like the original theme on TV Land better than the PD DVD's.

Anyone know more details on /how/ 16 episodes managed to slip into public domain like that?

I know this happened to a few Beverly Hillbillies episodes also.
