My laptop was working fine this morning but now this afternoon it starts to boot up and then it says the operating system hasn't been found. I noticed something was going on a little while ago and thought nothing of it. It thought it was going out of screen saver mode (it starts with screen saver and then there is a blank screen for a while after if the mouse isn't touched) but it actually shut itself down. robyrob or anyone else do you have any idea what is going on?

sounds like it went into hibernation/suspend mode (is the AC adapter plugged in?) and basically couldn't resume properly you might be able to try a hard reset (check your manual, but it usually involves removing the battery and plug and pressing a button to drain all the power on the mobo) and rebooting a couple of times, but if the Master Boot Record is hosed, you'll have to repair it before it will work again: http://www.computing.net/windowsxp/w...um/131755.html |

The AC adaptor was plugged in. I have a spare battery so I'll try putting that in.

Nothing is working. I tried the instructions on the forum whose link you gave and it didn't work. By the way, my laptop is a Campaq Presario 2100.
