He was James Best not Jim Lindsey. Don't worry, I don't know the name of all the actors on the show either.

Just for fun, a few years back, on another website, I posted a scenario as to what ever became of Jim Lindsey. This seems like a good thread to re-post it. See what you think:

Not long after re-joining Bobby Fleet's band, Jim and Bobby had another falling out. Too embarassed to return to Mayberry, but still holding his admiration for Sheriff Taylor, Jim decided to try his hand at law enforcement. To start his new life, he decided to change his name and after thinking about it awhile picked a name that combined the slang word for gun (because he'd be wearing one as Sheriff) and the last name from of a famous jazz musician he'd heard about. For good measure he randomly picked a middle name from the local phone book. He then assumed his new identity as Rosco P. Coltrane.

He then applied and was hired for the job of Sheriff in a small town named Hazzard. Although basically an honest and decent man, Jim (now Rosco) unfortuantely fell under the corrupting influence of local county commssioner J.D. Hogg.

I like the Jim Lindsey episodes also. It is funny, though, to watch him fake playing the guitar. He actually does a pretty good faking job in the second episode. But, the funniest thing is watching him get electric guitar sounds out of his obviously unplugged guitar.

Yeah, that always took me out of the moment. Not to mention all the different effects and tones he got out of that one guitar, without any effects boxes, pedals, or even a speaker.

And then, sometimes, like in the second episode, there would be drums and an organ out of nowhere.... was the courthouse haunted by the spirits of restless musicians?

Kind of reminds me of an old Elvis story: In one of his films, Elvis is supposed to be riding a motorcycle and singing the opening theme. He suggested that his back-up group (The Corsairs?) sing back-up on the theme as well. The director said "You're on a motorcycle, where are the other voices supposed to be coming from?" Elvis replied "The same place the music is coming from."

I believe you're talking about the first Lindsey episode, "The Guitar Player," where Jim gets both rhythm AND lead guitar sounds simultaneously from his one, unplugged, electric guitar after tuning it for Andy.

BUT, "Bobby Fleet and His Band with the Beat" were in the jail cells behind him and started playin' with him. One guy is knockin' out a beat on the cell bars with his drum sticks and the three guys in the other cell start to play their clarinette, trombone, and trumpet. This was the performance that caused Bobby to take on Jim as his guitar player. In the second episode we don't have any moments of a full band sound.
