Why did they change the way the living room and kitchen look in the early eps?

Yeah, they do that a lot in sitcoms. The Nanny is another good example. It really stands out on the final show when they do a clip retrospective.
The Cosby Show is another example. They changed the set about three times in the first season. I don't mind furniture, but when they move entire staircases it gets pretty obvious!! I liked the house by the end of the series much better in Fresh Prince. |

Family Matters and The Cosby Show had different living rooms and kitchens in the pilot ONLY. So that's not a very good example.

That first set was claustrophobic. It's so strange seeing it.
The actors are different too in the beginning, especially Uncle Phil. He's so serious. Everyone is toned down. |
