The other day, I saw a special on them on VH-1 about how they were cheated out of royalties and how they are not making money off of their classic songs. They are making money off of touring. Bobby Brown was talking and he was so fu-cked up during the interview he looked like he was going to pass out.

Yeah, I saw that too. Something seemed really strange with Bobby's mouth. Very odd. I was really surprised at some of the stuff revealed in the special like their first paycheck was only 1.87 Wow! Did they ever get cheated. And I didn't know that they voted Bobby out of the group or that Ralph didn't want Johnny in the group at first. Really good Behind the Music.

Also I just recently read this article saying that they would welcome Bobby back to the group:

http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=715352

Quote:
Bobby Brown's old group, New Edition, says they would welcome back the troubled singer.Bobby Brown's old group, New Edition, says they would welcome back the troubled singer.

"No matter what, we love that brother," Ricky Bell told AP Radio recently. "I mean, this is for real; this is no politically correct answer or anything like that. The door is open for him."

After forming as a Jackson Five-style R&B group in the early `80s, New Edition's hits included "Candy Girl" and "Cool It Now." Brown left for a solo career in 1986, though New Edition reunited for a short-lived comeback in 1996.

Brown, who married Whitney Houston in 1992, took off with singles such as "Don't Be Cruel." But he progressively became known more for his drug and alcohol arrests.

Bell says that even in his New Edition days, Brown's troubles were evident.

"It wasn't something he was trying to hide," Bell says. "You'd see the mood swings and the change in attitude."

But Bell adds that when Brown wasn't drinking, "We (would) see that he's a sharp individual, a talented individual, a family man."

Brown, 36, will be the subject of a new eight-episode reality TV show, "Being Bobby Brown," that will debut on Bravo June 30.

The show will also feature Houston, who has had problems of her own. In March, the 41-year-old singer checked herself into a rehabilitation center for the second time in a year.

Candy Girl
Can You Stop the Rain
Boys to Men
Is this the End
Popcorn Love

I didn't know they voted Bobby Brown out, I thought he left on his own. Johnny Gill ran rings around all of them though in terms of singing ability. In reality he was the only one who could really hold his own as a singer and he had a charisma the others didn't have at all. I liked their records up through the first one with him- Heartbreak. Their records from the 90s are terrible though.

I was just listening to a bunch of New Edition last week. It's a blur to me now because it was back in the 80's, but I'd forgotten I've seen New Edition twice in concert. I didn't realize until the "Blueprint" special on BET a couple of years ago how big a fan I am of theirs. My top 5:

Mr. Telephone Man
Popcorn Love
Is This the End
You're Not My Kind of Girl
Cool It Now

Plus honorable mentions:

Count Me Out
If It Isn't Love
N.E. Heart Break
Can You Stand the Rain
I'm Comin' Home
Boys to Men
My Secret (Didja Get It Yet?)
Lost in Love
Candy Girl
Jealous Girl
Little Bit of Love (Is All It Takes)

I saw VH1's Behind The Music on New Edition. LOL@Bobby Brown when he was being interviewed hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. His mouth was curled up when he was talkin LOL. I was shocked when i heard they were paid $1.87 a piece from Candy Girl album. That's f**ked up. Record labels get on my damn nerves how they take advantage of artists especially black artists. How in the hell was New Edition supposed to live off of $1.87 a piece? My 5 favorite songs by them are Gimme Your Love, Ooh Baby, Delicious, Hide & Seek, Hit Me Off. My favorite Johnny Gill album is his self titled album that came out in 1990. My favorite songs on that album is Rub You The Right Way, Wrap My Body Tight, Lady Dujour, Just Another Lonely Night, Giving My All To You. I also like his song I'm Still Waiting on New Jack City soundtrack & i like his The Floor song. Bobby Brown's My Perogative, Humpin Around, On Our Own songs are my favorite by him. I wish he would've did some more solo albums. I like his solo albums. The only one i haven't heard is Forever album. I love Bell Biv Devoe's Poison & Hootie Mack albums. Their last album which is self titled & came out 4 years ago isn't that good. Ralph Tresvant's first solo album is good. I like his Sensitivity & Last Night songs from that album. I haven't heard his 2nd solo album.

I'd like to respond, but last time I contributed to a New Edition thread, I was rudely informed that I had no right because I'm white and like pop music... even tho I could've sworn that the 1980's was my all time favorite period of music, and NE were a part of the decade.

But I'd say my fave songs of theirs are Popcorn Love, Cool It Now and If It Isn't Love. But I like Bobby Brown's solo music more.

Bobby did not look right on the BTM, I think he's been hanging around Flavor Flav too much, lol. I was expecting Brigette Nielson to come in and start kissing on Bobby.

What does being white have to do with anything? A lot of hit r&b tunes were written, produced and performed by Caucasians. Tell whoever was rude to get a clue.

Whew! Bobby looked like he suffered a stroke - like he'd been paralyzed on the right side of his face or something.
At least his lips weren't crusty like they usually are. LOL.

My faves:
"Boys To Men"
"Mr. Telephone Man"
"A Little Bit Of Love (Is All It Takes)"
"You're Not That Kind of Girl"
"N.E. Heartbreak"

Default Speaking of New Edition

New Edition On Short-Lived Stint On Bad Boy Records

Yahoo! Music
LAUNCH Radio Networks

R&B group New Edition is currently rehearsing for a national tour which kicks off next month and working with Paramount Pictures on the New Edition biopic. The group plans to head back into the studio sometime in the future to record new music, but following last year's fiasco with Bad Boy Records, they plan on taking their time.

Ricky Bell says signing with Bad Boy Records did not live up to the group’s expectations. "We thought it was gonna be like no limits," Bell said. "Let's go all out. Let's just get with the best writers, the best producers, let's just exploit New Edition, like, all the way, and that wasn't the plan. I mean, once we got in with him (P. Diddy), when we didn't agree with him on certain songs, we would get sent home for like six, seven months. You know, it would just be nothing being done."

Bell added that the straw that broke the camel's back was an incident over a song titled "Keep In Touch" which was produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Bell said that Combs refused to pay for the song because the group was allegedly over budget, although they had only worked with in-house Bad Boy producers.

According to Bell, Combs didn't respect Jam & Lewis, although the two produced many of New Edition's biggest hits. Eventually Jam & Lewis gave the group the song free of charge, but somehow it still wasn't included on the final version of One Love. Bell explained: "You know that song wasn't on there. It was taken off the album, then there was another song put on the album that wasn't even talked about initially of being on the album. A song that none of us liked. On top of that, Puffy paid himself $50,000, on top of that put a song on it that we didn't like, and we just felt like that was just a slap in the face. No respect."

Following the fallout with Bad Boy Records, reports surfaced that the group was difficult to work with. Group member Johnny Gill addressed the rumors. He said: "Well, I want anyone, whoever has any doubts about us, working with us, look at our 22-year record. I mean, it's not ironic when you look at Bad Boy, not only just us, look at the artists that have come, the artists that are leaving, and everyone that's trying to get out of the situation."

Calls to Bad Boy Records weren't returned at press time.
