Default What I know right now...

I want to tell everyone what I know, from Jonathan Prince and from members of the crew. So this is what I know right now...

Everyone has heard the news/rumor that American Dreams has been canceled. You've read it on news sites, message boards, and official sites for the AD cast. This is the information that I have, straight from Jonathan Prince, the show's creator...

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING is official yet. It doesn't look good right now, but NOTHING IS OFFICIAL. We still need to show NBC how much American Dreams means to us, and tell them why they MUST bring our show back.

Just because you read it on CNN or AOL or Yahoo doesn't mean that's the final word. That article went out of the AP wire, and everyone picked up the exact same article. The article even stated that NBC has not confirmed it.

Arlen's, Brittany's and Rachel's webmasters have announced the cancellation news on their sites. They have heard the news straight from the source, BUT- let me tell you what they have been told. They were told that the chances of the show coming back are VERY SLIM. BUT- NBC could still change their minds before mid-May. This is in no way over. Stranger things have happened. This is not just my opinion. This was told to me by members of the crew.

We are still asking NBC to keep our show... it is not the time to write, "You people are idiots," or "I'll never watch NBC again!" We need to persuade them to keep the show, not berate or insult them.

I will continue to post more whenever I hear anything.

Please continue to follow these suggestions. Postcards will be most helpful, but do ALL of them.

Remember that nothing official has been declared. We still have a chance. In other words, it's not over until the fat lady sings. The fat lady may be warming up, but she ISN'T SINGING YET!!!

Once NBC does announce something to the public, we really have nothing else to do. So please, let'sat least go out fighting.

Use every form of communication you can think of. Just imagine if all day on Monday and Tuesday, their phone lines, emails, mail boxes, fax lines, etc... are all filled with messages from AD fans. They would be overwhelmed.

KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE

Write a postcard, (or 50 postcards!) to NBC President Kevin Reilly

Kevin Reilly
President, NBC Entertainment
3000 W. Alameda Ave.
Burbank, CA
91523

Call NBC: (212) 664-4444 Ask to leave a comment about American Dreams.

Write emails to NBC: AmericanDreams@nbcuni.com

Money talks. It sucks, but it's true. So:
Buy the S1 DVD set from NBC: http://nbcstore.shopnbc.com/product/...0&track=-10451

Buy the S1 soundtrack from NBC: http://nbcstore.shopnbc.com/product/...5001&oasid=100

I admire your devotion and optimism, but the writing is on the wall. I've done my part, including sending a couple of postcards last week, on top of the 20 I sent a few months ago, and the dozens of e-mails from me and my family and friends. That's it for me.

If you are a liberty to say, do you know if Prince has been pitching the show to other networks? I'll go ahead and send another postcard, but I think it would be wise for Prince to try and shop the show to other networks, or at the very least make plans for a concluding episode/movie.

I'm hoping you're right. But my source who works on the show told me on Thursday that it's dead in the water. In any event, we all put up a fight. Maybe someone, somewhere will notice it and breath new life into the show.

Perhaps if they gave it a religious theme it might have a chance now? Call it American Revelations!

Yes, he will shop it to other networks, but not until NBC has made their decision official and final.

I've got a couple of problems, maybe someone can help me:

First, "Daybreaker01", we seem to have a difference of opinion here between you and "your source" and some of the posters here.
You have told the truth so far, but some of these posters wonder why NBC hasn't posted your information about cancellation as official. Your source had to find out from somewhere...........can you tell us where?
Of course, NBC hasn't denied your information either. They supposedly have just "had no comment".
So we have you and your source on ONE SIDE, the posters here with their "optimism" on the OTHER SIDE and NBC and their "no comment" in THE MIDDLE.
.........and we go 'round and 'round with nothing being done.

Next, some have posted that we should shop to other networks, which I said a long time ago. But someone also posted that at least two stars want raises.
I do think 6 million viewers would fit more in at a WB network show, but I also believe the stars would have to take huge pay cuts........not get raises.
Going from major (which means "money") prime time network status to "WB" status somewhat probably means "less money".......all the way around.

So, once again, it boils down to money. Would the writers, producers, grips, etc. and the stars take pay cuts to keep the show on the air?

Time will tell.

Peace.

Maybe CBS or ABC would pick up the show if NBC doesn't. The WB picked up What I Like About You from FOX and Sabrina the Teenage Witch from ABC. UPN picked up from the WB both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Roswell. Even JAG started off on one network and then jumped to another. That shows that maybe there's hope for our show.

Look at this way, Family Guy is coming back tonight because it was so popular on DVD. The same could happen to AD. Well at least become popular enough in e-mails and postcards that it's renewed.

I wanted to respond to Luv2Dreem who has brought up some good points.First I should say that I’ve worked in film and television for the last 13 years, and I’ve done big budget network TV and low budget syndicated and WB type shows. While there are very reliable sources telling us the show is done, I will only rely on the final word from NBC. I don’t think there’s anyone close to this show at the network or involved with the show who
want it to go, but they will be making a business decision. They sell TV shows and not enough people are buying, but like ADfanclub said, stranger things have happened, and I think with this show people are trying to find a way. Wait for NBC, and try not to bash them or boycott them - remember they are the ones who took the chance and brought
us this great show for 3 seasons. As far as going to another network Luv2Dream makes astute points about money and salaries. The difference between a major network drama and a smaller UPN type show is very significant. AD does not come cheap. If the sets are
struck and the cast is scattered, getting this show back up with it’s cast intact for a lower budget would be a challenge and quite costly. As far as the crew is concerned, they are all union, and there is little leeway on salaries, but you can always find a crew. It’s the core production and writing team you’d want to keep together. It could be done, but you’d
really have to hope ABC or CBS would want to take the chance. You’re point is true though. It is about money, and everyone needs to work - that doesn’t mean they don’t care about the show. I still have faith, because this is a special show and it’s good for television in general. Hang in there, keep the postcards coming, and let Jonathan Prince do his thing.

I keep promising not to post here anymore but your reply caught my interest.I think What I like About you has always been a WB show it started out on WB and has been on The WB for 3 seasons and 4 next year.

Grounded For life was on fox first and WB picked that up. But now GFL is done.

And I believe ADfanclub about what she said about prince. So if anyone gets mad that I'm going with ADfanclub on how nothing is official. You can if you must and now I'm going to go and enjoy the rest of my Spring and my Summer..Mel

All I can tell you is that he calls me and gives me the latest he's heard. Right now he works on a different show. However, because he is still connected with AD and would be returning to the show if it were to be brought back, I assume he hears the info from reliable people connected with the show.

I want to be as optomistic as anyone else here. I think it's a damn shame that NBC is turning their backs on this show. As I've said before, it's sad that the only types of shows that people seem to care about anymore are cops, reality and stupidity! But, that's the business I guess and the ratings rule.

While it seems that my posts have caused some folks here to take issue with my information, I really don't feel like I should be put on the defensive. If anything changes, before NBC decides to tell the world, I will be sure to share it if anyone wants to hear it. If not, I'll keep the info to myself and not cause any more pain and suffering.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the kind words. We are all in the same boat here and we all love the show. I truly hope I can offer better news in the near future.
