This sitcom is about two families who are and have been best friends for years. The four adults have grown up together and remained friends ever since then. Steven Weber and Amy Yasbeck play Jason and Paula Miller, who are next-door neighbors and best friends with Dave and Lisa Burke (Tim Daly, Crystal Bernard). Dave is a successful insurance agent. Jason is a hot-shot attorney . Lisa is a hardworking advertizing executive. Paula is a talented beauty salon stylist. Dave and Lisa are proud parents of 18 year old Courtney Burke (Amanda Bynes) and 15 year old Erica Burke (Daniella Monet). Jason and Paula are proud parents of 18 year old Brianna Miller (Allison Munn) and 15 year old Kyle Miller (Martin Spanjers). Brianna and Courtney are best friends, as Erica and Kyle have been dating for 6 months now. Brianna's college-aged skaterboi boyfriend, Andrew Sheridan (Adam Brody), and Courtney's same-aged jock boyfriend, Derek LeClair (Billy Aaron Brown) are friends yet they only hangout together when their girlfriends are with them. The Burke family and the Miller family shows the ups and downs of living in the 00's.
