Chris Candido passes away
By JASON CLEVETT -- SLAM! Wrestling Shockwaves are running through the world of professional wrestling with the news that Chris Candido has passed away at the age of 33. The cause of death is unknown at this time. Candido rose to fame in Smokey Mountain Wrestling alongside manager and girlfriend Tammy Sytch. The duo moved on to the WWF where Sytch was dubbed "Sunny" and Candido "Skip." The duo were the fitness fanatics "The Bodydonnas." Candido won the tag team title with Tom Prichard (as Zip.) After leaving the company Candido was a vital part of ECW as part of the triple threat stable with Shane Douglas and teaming with Lance Storm to win the tag titles. He also had a brief run in WCW, winning their cruiserweight title. Candido had been on the comeback trail recently, excelling on the independent circuit and recently debuting in TNA. His last match was at Sunday's "Lockdown" pay per view, where he broke his fibula and tibia and dislocated his ankle in a cage match teaming with Lance Hoyt against Apollo and Sonny Siaki. He had surgery Monday to repair his ankle and was at the Impact tapings Tuesday, managing The Naturals from a wheelchair. Bob Ryder, who works for TNA Wrestling, reported on 1wrestling.com that Candido collapsed Thursday evening and was rushed to hospital. TNA posted the following message on their website "TNA joins the entire wrestling world in mourning the untimely death of Chris Candido on Thursday." ------------------------------------------------------------ Personally I think most fans will remember Chis Candido from his run as Skip with his manager Tammy Syntch aka Sunny. There gimmick was based on fitness similiar to the current Simon Dean gimmick. During his run in the WWF from mid-1995-1996, Chris Candido basically was a mid-card talent and also formed a tag team with former WWE writer Tom Prichard in the Body Donnas, together they won the WWE Tag Titles in March 1996 and held them for two months. Candido later left the WWE in late 1996 and joined ECW where he stayed until 2000 where he joined WCW and had a very brief run during WCW's final year. He held the WCW cruiserweight title in April 2000 for a month before being fired later that summer after he was got with drug paraphanalia. Candido later made various indy appearances throughout the next few years until early 2005 when he signed with NWA TNA until his passing. ![]() Chris Candido (Skip) and Sunny - WWE 1995 |

I feel so sorry for Tammy, she and Chris were like soulmates. They had been together since they were children.

Yeah. It is very sad. I am sure WWE will open their show tonight and or/tomorrow on Raw with some kind of a Chris Candido tribute. They will probably do something else for him at the upcoming ECW ppv in June.

I was glad to see the WWE pay respect to Chris Candido by posting his pic on the front page of there website along with a statement. I too hope they will at least show his pic at the beginning of Raw later tonight, I doubt they will do a tribute since he was only with WWE a couple of years and did not really have a major role. |
