Default Your predictions for the fall line-ups

With the upfronts just 2 weeks away, I thought it might be fun to make bold predictions for the network's fall line-ups. Try to do so with a realistic outlook towards your favorite series. For instance, I love Less Than Perfect, but I know it's as good as dead. I'll start with ABC.

Monday:
8:00 How'd They do That? (or a newsmag)
9:00 MNF
Reasoning: 8pm Monday ratings are always bad for ABC because the show gets preempted in half the country. Something cheap for sure.

Tuesday:
8:00 According To Jim
8:30 New Sitcom
9:00 George Lopez
9:30 New Sitcom
10:00 Boston Legal

Reasoning: While Jim would take a hit at 8pm, ABC is dead in the hour. George Lopez did well at 9:30, so there's no reason to think that it wouldn't do similar numbers to "Jim" at 9pm. "Boston Legal" is all but a lock for 10pm

Wednesday:
8:00 Lost
9:00 New Drama (until January)
10:00 Wife Swap

Reasoning: ABC will never have a hit drama at 10pm, especially not now considering the competition. Alias would return in January, barring a that new drama becomes a big hit. The timeslot is wide open.

Thursday:
8:00 ????
9:00 Extreme Makeover
10:00 PrimeTime Live

Reasoning: EM could get the boot as well, but ABC has had no success on this night with dramas, sitcom or reality.

Friday:
8:00 Funniest Videos
9:00 Hope & Faith
9:30 New Sitcom or 8 Simple Rules
10:00 20/20
Reasoning: A repeat AFV on Friday drew ABC's best numbers in the timeslot in months, and the show aired there until 2 seasons ago. ABC needs a solid show like this to bring them back to life on the night

Saturday
8:00 Disney Movie/repeats
Reasoning: No new programming once again, although I'd like to see Little House come back, but the ratings weren't that good (except for the premiere)

Sunday
7:00 EM: HE
8:00 New Drama
9:00 Housewives
10:00 Grey's Anatomy
Reasoning: ABC has few places to put new shows next season- the good places are taken up, and the other places are bad timeslots for the network. EM-HE would take a dip at 7pm, but has performed in the 11 to 12 million viewer range in the timeslot, 20% better than ABC does there now. It would also open up 8pm to a new drama, maybe one of the Housewive-like shows that ABC has in development. "Anatomy" could also be moved up to the slot.

Yes:Half of the new shows will be gone before week 6 of the new season will have passed. Why can't these networks at least let a show go at least 13 weeks before pulling the plug? That what they used to do in the good ol' days. They would even(believe it or not)let a show stay on A WHOLE YEAR and let the Summer reruns ratings comes in before cancelling a show!!!Now with the reality shows being the easy way out(and a cheep way),the sitcoms might as well be dead!Remember;it takes millions of dollars to create a show, find the right actors, and when you add in the competition(esspecially from cable),the error of sucess/failure is few and far between.I would like to see at least one sitcom that's NOT base on a comic routine.

I'm an optimist, so I still believe Less Than Perfect will be back. IMO it makes no sense to cancel and bring in a totally new show in it's spot that will probably do even worse

I'm optimistic about 8 Simple Rules coming back... it's about 50/50 right now. The chances for LTP are even worse, but you can take solice in that the chances of Eyes or Jake in Progress returning are even worse than that.

ABC needs to overhaul it's entire Friday night line-up. Unfortunately for the sitcoms, dramas are what ABC is having the biggest success with right now, so that's the way the network will go.

I'll try NBC's next:

Monday:
8:00 Fear Factor
9:00 Las Vegas
10:00 Medium
Reasoning: 9-11 is a lock, but "FF" could be bumped out if NBC can find another show for the timeslot. It's a wide open timeslot, and "FF" has seen major viewer erosion this season.

Tuesday:
8:00 Will & Grace
8:30 New Sitcom
9:00 Scrubs
9:30 New Sitcom
10:00 SVU

Reasoning: Neither W&G nor Scrubs are solid enough to lead-ff the night, and neither are "family shows," but what choice does NBC have? Alternatively, it would bring back 'The Biggest Loser" at 8pm and crunch the sitcoms back to 9pm.

Wednesday:
8:00 Dateline
9:00 West Wing (Revelations in the spring)
10:00 L&O

Reasoning: NBC should finally give up at 8pm; nothing has worked there and it keeps wasting series in the timeslot.

Thursday:
8:00 Joey
8:30 New Sitcom
9:00 The Apprentice
10:00 ER

Reasoning: NBC is pretty much tied up on this night, and will likely see more viewer erosion next season.

Friday:
8:00 Dateline
9:00 New Drama
10:00 Law & Order: TBJ
Reasoning: Pretty solid, with a new drama at 9pm.

Saturday
8:00 Repeats
Reasoning: No new programming once again.

Sunday
7:00 Dateline
8:00 New Drama
9:00 Law & Order: CI
10:00 Crossing Jordan

Reasoning: 8pm will once again be a trouble spot, but there's really no way of getting around it. Things will change big time in the fall of 2006, however, when football comes back to the night, and we may just see some original programming on Saturday

That's what I'm hoping for--then Eyes could have a chance!

make Fridays (no more "family friendly" TGIF)

Fridays:
8:00 PM- (sitcom or drama, I'm hoping for a drama)
8:30 PM- (sitcom or drama)
9:00 PM- Eyes
10:00 PM- 20/20

I hope so too. I would also be shocked if BL ended up anywhere but Tuesdays. It could go Friday or Monday, but David E Kelley's shows have a shaky track record on both nights, so BL Tuesdays it is.

I almost complete agree with your CBS schedule, Brent, except that CBS might do 4 sitcoms on Wednesday as well. The night is really getting overpopulated with dramas. "60 Minutes II" is likely to be cancelled all together, especially considering the memo gate scandal and declining ratings. CBS might try another reality show Tuesdays at 10pm, as well.

I would be shocked if any network were to air more sitcoms next season than they did this season.

My only changes for Brent's CBS schedule would be....

9:00pm-Two and a Half Men(New Time)

I think there's a decent chance CBS may do away with sitcoms all together on Wednesdays and just have 4 on Mondays... as sad as it is. I'll be shocked if any network has more sitcoms on in the Fall than they did when this fall season started.
