Default Out of the Blue a spin-off?

Hi, I'm fairly new to this board, I'm a big fan of sitcoms, and I know alot about spin-offs, I'm sure this has been discussed quite a few times but I still don't understand is Out of the Blue a spin-off of Happy Days? I know the premiere of OOTB aired a few days before the HD eps, but supposedly it was supposed to air after and it was produced after that HD eps, so wouldn't that make it a spin-off? I know the characters were not recurring characters on HD, but then again Mork was only a guest star on HD, but he got his own spin-off show. And according to "The Complete Directory To Primetime Network And Cable TV Shows" it is a spin-off, and they seem to know what they're talking about. Will you guys help me out?

Out of The Blue is not a spinoff. The character on OOTB never appeared on Happy Days before 1979-80 season. Out of the Blue crossed over with Happy Days 3 weeks after the first episode to get a boost in the ratings. Defintely not a spinoff.

I have wondered that as well. Thanks for clearing that up. Do you know if Garry Marshall was involved anyway with OOTB?

Yeah I guess that's right, the A&E TVography of HD pointed out that Laverne and Shirley, Mork and Mindy, and Joanie Loves Chachi, are all spin-offs, but they didn't mention Out of the Blue. But I still don't understand why that book has it listed as a spin-off?

The authors of that book said that you can write them if you notice any errors. So that Out of the Blue being mentioned as a spinoff of Happy Days is defintely a error.

It's funny, after all these yrs Out Of The Blue is only being remembered for 1 thing-whether or not it's a spin-off.

I am with u about the spin off.

Out of the blue have more in common with Mork & Mindy.

Mork and the angel are friends.

I can't see that Out Of the Blue was a spin off from Happy Days.

If the show was ever a spin off, it will be from Mork & Mindy.

I loved The Complete Directory To Primetime Network And Cable TV Shows. I buy every edition since 1984.

Mork made a Guest Apperance on Out of The Blue in Sept of 79 to help bring in a Bigger Audience for Out of the Blue. It was just a crossover between 2 shows. Not a spinoff
