Default Frasier's mother

How did the writers deal with Fraisers mother since she appeared in one of the early episodes of Cheers?

I don't ever recall them really going into it much other than having had her die many years before.

The writers killed her off before Frasier even started.

Oh I know, but they never really said why she died or what happened, yet I remember her in an episode (or Fraser at least phoning her) in Cheers. I wished they had said something about it so you could get an idea of the timeline. I think she was always supposed to be more "cultured" like the sons.

If I'm not mistaken, she died somewhere in Cheers original run. Although they never dealt with her death directly, I could've sworn Frasier once said that both his parents were dead.

Yes - you're right about the both parents being dead thing. That's why I found it funny that his dad was ressurrected for Frasier!! Plus, they had John Mahoney (the guy who played Frasier's dad) on Cheers as a piano player (the guy with the jingles hired by Rebecca).

In Niles' surgery episode you can see Martin looking at an Xray of his wife's breasts. The doc tells him it's not good news. I assumed this meant that Frasier's mom died of breast cancer.

In that episode isn't Niles holding a GIRL child up to meet her new sister? They made the first child a boy later in memory of David that died on 9/11.

I thought their mom died when Frasier and Niles were little boys.

he also said once on "Cheers" that his father was a reshearch scientist, but he explained why he said that, and he said his father's dead, om the "Frasier" episode where Sam visited. The scene went like this:

Frasier introduces Niles, and Sam says how they both look alike.

Martin: "Hey, what'd he tell you about me, the retired cop"?
Sam: "Um...he said you're dead, actully".
Martin turns to Frasier: "YOU SAID I WAS DEAD"??
Frasier: "Well, you had hung up on me when I called you, so I was mad at you at the time".
Sam: "And, he said you were a ressearch scientist".
Martin turns to Frasier again: "A RESEARCH SCIENTIST"???
Frasier: "You were dead, so what does it matter"?

No, because on Cheers, Frasier's mom did appear to threaten Diane's life.

that's right; I forgot about that episode.

I wonder if they got the idea for that from the "Taxi" episode where Zena brought Louie home to meet her parents; and when everyone was out of the room exept Louie and her mother; her mother thretened Louie to stay away from Zena, or something. (for those who don't know; both shows had the same producers)
