Here is a pic of Al in full make-up from the early Pilot.

I like the makeup he had in the pilots. He looked weird and scary. Gosh, that schnoz.
He seemed to be wearing alot of padding to make him look overweight because he looked slimmer in the makeup they changed to. |

I thought it looked like it might be an extention. |

The nose in the pilot episodes was an prosthetic extention, it wasn't real. It was pretty extreme. It was dropped after the pilot episodes.

Didn't he have the nose piece in a few of the first episodes, too? Seems like it...

The nose extension, was only for the pilots and the few reshot scenes in episode 2. Episodes 1, and 3-70 + Munster, Go Home! and The Munsters' Revenge, Al does not wear a nosepiece.

In the DeCarlo pilot, they reshot the scenes of Eddie so he'd have the widow's peak. I don't understand why they went to the trouble of reshooting those scenes of Grandpa playing checkers alone in the shot. They tried to duplicate the makeup with the nose extension and didn't succeed completely. They do have Yvonne DeCarlo in the shot at one point where she wasn't before. She asks Grandpa "How's it going."
With Herman and Lily, they didn't even try duplicating the makeup. Once Eddie leaves the scene, the makeup reverts back to the makeup in the original shooting of the pilot. |

I guess they felt that it was still early in the series, and not many people understood the show yet, so it didn't matter.
