I've recently gotten into the reruns of this show. It's quite different from the other US soaps I've observed actually. It was NBC's longest running soap and was apart of its lineup 35 years. Does anyone know why it was canceled in 1999? I mean the ratings weren't that bad and the show won tons of Emmys during its run. It's sad that something like 'Passions' took its place, which from what I've seen in my time in the US is a horrible soap (If you wish to call it that).
Anyway, anyone else fans of this soap? |

I actually used to watch Another World for a while back in the 80's when I first got into watching soaps(mostly Y&R), but I don't really remember much from the show and I don't even really remember the characters or storylines, except maybe Jake, and that's only because my brother once told me I kinda looked like him at the time.
And yes, I agree with you. Passions really is horrible!(no offense to Passions fans) |

Most of the storylines and all of the acting are very laughable. I could never watch it daily, though. I'd get sick of it wayyyy too fast.

The cancellation of AW will remain an unforgivable crime on NBC's hands. I don't care if they do a Blossom reunion, nothing will make me forgive them for cancelling this. I am still boycotting NBCD for this and Sunset Beach getting cancelled for the crap shoot that is Passions.

I love "Another World"! I watch it every day on SoapNet and post at the board there.
My absolute favorite character is the quirky, endearing Frankie Frame, followed by the venomous Iris Cory. And this week was an extra special treat, cause we had the incomparable Dorothy Lyman reprise her late '70s role as Gwen Frame! (I love her as Naomi on "Mama's Family")Long live Bay City!

I'm loving the fact that I can watch one of my favorite soaps all over again... I cried buckets when I found out the were cancelling the show back in 1999 to me it will alway's be a travesty!
So tell me who are you favorites on the show right now? We're in 1989, and the murderer of Jason Frame has just been revealed... any thoughts? I'm glad I found another place I can gush about Another World! |

I love it too. It was the first soap I started watching and followed it from summer 92 until it's demise. I have watched it on soap net on and off...
I find it kind of difficult to watch it now with it's '80s' look. I can't wait for it to fast forward some... But, can anyone tell me what happened to Vickie's baby Steven? I thought that she had a Steven but by Grant during the whole Vicky/Ryan thing (Which is right around the time I started watching) So, what happens with this baby Steven? |

Another World was probably one of the best American soaps ever. Fine writing, a wonderful cast, visually stunning sets...it was my grandmother's favorite "story" (as she called them) and I remember watching AW with her as a little kid back in the early-90s. There are some really old clips of the show on YouTube, one from the early 1970s, which was a surprise to me. Victoria Wyndham reigned supreme as Rachel Cory, one of the most complex heroines every created for daytime dramas. The show wobbled off course late in the 90s when it included some far-fetched "supernatural" storylines (in the vein of Marlena's demon possession on Days). I agree, NBC cancelling this show was one of the worst decisions in network television history. Then again, NBC seems intent on not having any soap operas on their schedule period, so Days of Our Lives fans, be prepared for the unthinkable in the not-too-distant future...

I watched AW back in the '70s andearly '80s, and was a devoted viewer. I just read about Beverlee McKinsey's passing, and am very saddened by this news.
