Post Remembering Eva Gabor

I will always remember Eva Gabor; her beauty, her charm, and her sexy glamour. When she was doing "GREEN ACRES", she had the most beautiful face, beautiful smile, her beautiful and perfectly styled blonde hair, and the way she dressed. In fact, she was just plain beautiful, both on the inside and out. I truly and deeply miss her.

Nan,old friend, remember me from the Hooterville Hillbillies message board?(I don't go on there now too much, but I do remember you as an Eva Gabor fan.)I have fond memories of Green Acres, and Eva Gabor was excellent as Lisa Douglas. Her passing reminded me how,as some would say,the good die young.

Richard, thanks for your post. Although, I've gotten over it now, Eva Gabor will always be my very favorite actress. In fact, she's here today in spirit, but I still miss her. To me, she's definitely not dead.

I plan to visit her grave the next time that I go out to Los Angeles. She's buried in Westwood Memorial Cemetery, where Dean Martin, Natalie Wood, Marilyn Monroe, and now Jack Lemmon, are also buried. In fact, the last time that I was out in Los Angeles, which was in 1983, I went to Saturday night Mass in the church that her funeral was in, which was the Church of the Good Shepherd in Beverly Hills. I also tried to apply for a dietary aide job at the hospital that she died in, which was Cedars Sinai Medical Center. If I had been hired there, I could have been delivering and passing out trays to all of the celebrities in there, because after all, that's were all the celebrities go.

Anyway, Richard, I'm out of work right now, but as soon as I get a job, I'm thinking about getting some old movie and TV magazines from the 60's to see if Eva Gabor's picture was in there. I started it as a hobby back in 1978, but haven't been able to order any because most of my money goes toward my living expenses.

I have two personal favorite pictures of Eva Gabor, which were taken when she was doing "GREEN ACRES". Although these are black and white pictures, she was photographed wearing this light-colored print strapless gown, a choker necklace, tiny droop earrings, and a beautiful satin stole, which was wrapped around her, just below her bare shoulders. Her beautiful blonde hair was styled so perfectly neat and chic, and she had that beautiful, and very sexy smile. These two pictures appeared in the August, 1967 issue of "TV RADIO MIRROR" (in which she was photographed standing next to her husband at the time, Richard Brown, who was then a vice president for the company that produced "GREEN ACRES", Filmways) and in the April, 1970 issue of "PHOTOPLAY" (in which Mr. Blackwell named her as one of the Ten Best Dressed Women of 1969). These pictures have become worn and tattered, and because these were my very favorite pictures of her, I want to see if I can find these magazines again. But anyway, these pictures define the real Eva Gabor, beautiful, glamorous, and stunning. She not only wore strapless gowns in real life, she wore them on the show, and she looked very sexy in them.

This may sound crazy, but I look at these pictures every time I listen to music, especially the Motown artists (Diana Ross and the Supremes, the Temptations, Four Tops, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, etc.)

But anyway, I have to find a job first before I order any more movie magazines.

Nan,I hope you get a job soon.I have a friend who is also jobless, and she isn't sure at all what kind of job to look for.

Anyhow,I wish you luck in your collecting and finding what you're looking for.It must be a joy to find something you really have wanted for so long.I know in my collecting or at least looking for books I have been thrilled to find the exact book I remember.

Eva Gabor was truly a very beautiful and elegant woman. It was her elegance and sophistication that made the character of "Lisa Douglas" work so well. She was a perfect counter-balance to the other women of Hooterville - Doris Ziffle, "Ralph" Monroe, etc. She is missed.

Richard, Nan Elizabeth: Happy Thanksgiving!

(Nan Elizabeth: I hope things work out for you on the job front)

Sad

Sorry that I forgot to post this here, but February 11 would have been Eva Gabor's 81st birthday. Oh, how I miss her so much. Her death has not only very deeply affected me, and it brings tears to my eyes. In August of '97, my cable company added TV Land to it's lineup, which at the time was airing the reruns of "GREEN ACRES", and I just started crying on and off. Even for two weeks in May of '98, I was crying practically every day. Even on the day after Frank Sinatra died, I was crying, but I wasn't crying over him; I was still crying over her.

I truly and deeply miss Eva Gabor so much that it just brings tears to my eyes.

Thumbs up

Jimbo: Thanks for asking.

Since December, I've been in an unpaid training program for a customer service position, but unfortunately, the company that I'm training at does not yet have the contract. Therefore, I re-entered the job market at the end of January.

It's been very rough on me, but Congress passed and Bush signed the 13-week extension for unemployment benefits on Saturday. My benefits ran out last month, and I need money desperately.

Cool RESPONSE TO EMAIL FROM JIMBO

Jimbo: Thanks for your message. I can't believe that you grew up in Upper Darby. I grew up in Folcroft and lived in Southwest Philadelpha for three years. Then I lived in Lansdowne for sten yars and then Center City for seven years.

Yes, I do remember the old Lits store. The Tower Theater's still there, but they've been doing nothing but rock concerts since 1973. I remember the old Eric Terminal movie theater and the 69th Street movie theater, which is today is now an office buidling. Upper Darby, along with Folcroft and Southwest Philly, has definitely changed.

They're closing both the MBS and Good Shepherd Schools next month. In fact, on June 2, there's going to be a special 11 o'clock Mass there at Good Shepherd, and after that, they're going over to the school for refreshments. My mother, aunt, and uncles went to school there, and because I lived in the parish for three years, I'm going there out of respect.

Cool

Jimbo: When I said MBS, I meant Most Blessed Sacrament at 56th and Chester Avenue. Sorry that I didn't make myself clear on that.

The seventh anniversary of the death of Eva Gabor, the fourth of July, is fast approaching. I hope that everybody who was a big fan of hers will pause for a moment of silence on that day to remember this beautiful, gifted, glamorous, and talented woman.
