Mr. Ziffel. He always wore the same clothes and was a scraggily old man, especially with that beard. I don't know what his wife Doris saw in him, but to me, HE'S UGLY!!1.

Uncle Joe...... something about his monotone voice really annoyed me. I'm glad they dropped the character.

Mr. Ziffel, and especially Hank Kimball and Haney were very important characters in the series, and were extremely funny - not sure how anyone could think they were annoying or not funny. You have to realize just how clever their scripted dialogue was, and the art of their delivery and timing as actors - really talented. Joe Carson was a transition character from "Petticoat Junction" as GA was a spinoff of that series.

I agree with goldie, all of the characters were important to the show; if the characters hadn't been portrayed as they were, the show wouldn't have been as funny and great as it was.
I just don't have a least favorite character because they were all funny and talented in their own way. Cheers!

Yes, all the characters were important, but I still despised MR. HANEY... IMO he is aggravating!

I can't really say I don't like any of the characters either. I think Mr. Haney and Mr. Kimball are hilarious! Yes, I'd find them extremely annoying if I knew them, but hilarious nonetheless.

Although there were a few funny moments about him, I didn't like Arnold the pig very much. A pig watching television, sleeping in a crib, falling in love with a basset hound, and having his grunts understood as spoken language by almost everyone except the "strange" Mr. Douglas... this is too far out even for a silly and somewhat satirical farce like GA. If the Ziffels were silly enough to treat a young pig who never grows as part of the family (since they apparently had no kids), that's one thing. But to give him human qualities and to make the straight man Douglas as the stupid one who doesn't believe he actually is a 'virtual human' is almost akin to the Outer Limits. And in the 60's they couldn't even talk about all the pig*%#@ that would have to cleaned up in the Ziffel house, and sometimes the Douglas house and Drucker's Store.
Nevertheless, the funniest scene with Arnold I recall was when Sam Drucker had a display of something with the name Gourmet in it, but he spelled it GOORMAY on his sign. Then Fred Z. and Arnold come in, Arnold grunts a few times and Fred says, "Arnold says ya ain't got gourmet spelled right." If that's about as far as they took it, alright; but sleeping in bed and crying because the light is put out....sheesh! Incidentally, I had an aunt-- "great aunt," I think-- who was sometimes talked about as being a little "off her rocker," and I only saw her a couple of times. And she had this chicken-- a plain old hen-- which she kept in the house and talked to it like part of the family, not caring how much she had to clean up after it. So there actually are some Ziffel and Arnold comparables out there .

Hm, where to begin? I never liked Fred Ziffel, he was always so grumpy. And the way he treated Doris was beyond me. I would have divorced if he were my husband, but then I hear that divorce was not so big back then. Sorry guys, I never liked Arnold, there was just too many episodes revolving around him if you ask me.
During the last season, Lisa started getting on my nerves, she was acting even dumber than usual. And Mr. Kimball, I swear I think he got dumber as the show progressed. The only people on the show I actually liked full-time were Mr. Haney and Eb. Oliver was okay sometimes, and Lisa was fine until the last season. |

I never really hated any of the characters but the way they acted sometimes annoyed me.
Mr. Haney was funny, but at times the way he constantly hasseled Mr. Douglas for money got on my nerves. Mr. Kimball was also extremely funny, but his forgetfullness did annoy me at times. Mr. Douglas's temper also got on my nerves, especially when his anger was directed at Lisa. And although Lisa is still my favorite character of all time, in the last season, I hated the way they made her dumber than usual. Usually there would be a sort of strange sense and intelligence behind what she said, but in the last season, they writers just made her into another dumb blonde (it pains me to say that ). Anyway, despite these facts, Green Acres was a great show, the writing was brilliant, and all the characters were endearing.Bye for now!
