2005 Guide to the Upfronts: When Do I Find Out?
By The Futon Critic Staff

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- One of our most frequently asked questions is - when do I found out if (insert show name here) will be renewed? Well look no further for the answer. The six major broadcast networks will announce their initial 2005-06 season plans during their annual "upfront presentations" starting Monday, May 16. It's then you'll get the final verdict on all of their current series as well as which pilots have been given series orders.

Until then, here's a list of when each network presents (all times TBA). Be sure to visit the Showatch section for more information on the status of all the broadcast network series as well as our Pilot Charts to see which projects are under consideration for next season.

NBC - MONDAY, MAY 16
(Metropolitan Opera House - New York)

ABC - TUESDAY, MAY 17
(New Amsterdam Theater - New York)

The WB - TUESDAY, MAY 17
(Sheraton Towers Imperial Ballroom - New York)

CBS - WEDNESDAY, MAY 18
(Carnegie Hall - New York)

FOX - THURSDAY, MAY 19*
(City Center Theatre - New York)

UPN - THURSDAY, MAY 19
(Madison Square Garden - New York)

* Prior to its May 19 upfront presentation, FOX is expected to announce as early as Monday its full summer schedule which will run through its MLB playoff coverage in October.

Why the heck do networks wait so late to let us know about renewals?

I mean take Less Than Perfect, it just had it's season finale, but for all us fans know it could be the series finale, pretty sad we can't find out in time to have a proper finale

Networks don't care about the fans. I'm still angry about the way Now And Again and The Fugitive ended. They both ended in cliffthangers with no resolution.

Yep I agree, ABC did the same thing with Lois and Clark

I think ABC probably has the worse track record doing this

I still haven't seen the last episode of L&C despite the fact I watched it for years. I remember ABC had renewed it for 2 extra years and canceled it after the first. They definately are one of the worst but I'll go with FOX for being even worst then them. Titus, Dark Angel, Boston Public...the list goes on and on with that network and their shabby treatment of shows.

Well those 2 were on CBS, so they must have a bad record too. Does any network make good decisions or are they all just last minute things?

If a show didn't have a large audience to begin with, like "Less than Perfect," there's really nothing to promote. I love the show, and it did have a good final episode (because it's 99% likely not come back), but even if it were a series finale, it never had a big audience to begin with, and was never a pop culture phenomenon, so it wouldn't have gotten a big audience either way.
