That was so stupid of him. That is one of the worst lapses in judgment I have ever seen in a fan. I looked at that video and I agree with the guys of the New England Sports Network, there was no way that fan was reaching for the ball. They shouldn't even be reaching for it, anyway, because it was in play. He was definitely slapping him. I hope they make an example of that guy. I applaud Sheffield for holding back and not going into the stands. He wouldn't have wanted to end up like Ron Artest, suspended and all. When a player goes into the stands, it is a lose-lose situation.

I agree with you Brian. The security at Fenway did a great job of taking the care of the situation quickly & without anymore incident, 'cause it could have gotten very ugly. I still think the Sox would have scored those two runs, even if Sheffield had thrown the ball first before shoving that guy. There's always some drama going on at Yankees/Red Sox games. I was still surprised at Francona & Jackson getting thrown out when the mess with Sheffield happened. So much was going on, it almost made forget that my Yankees had lost. . .almost.

I'm going to say no. In all honesty, I believe that guy was probably trying to grab for the ball, not take a swing at Sheffield. But that's another problem. Fans are interfering with the game. I'm sorry, but in this day and age, fans can't be that close to the field and the players. |

I feel ESPNEWS hyped up the incident between Gary and that fan because I didn't see it and I thought it was a major situation. So when I saw the incident, i said-"I waited all this time for this" I was expecting a REAL FIGHT, what I saw wasn't SH%T-lol

I agree that what happened was wrong whether he was going after sheffield or the ball. When it first happend I was like "thats disgusting" but as they continued to show replays it was him like slapping sheffield...and in all honesty if someone was going to hit someone they wouldnt slap him, they would throw a real punch, so i think it was still bad, I just dont know what the fan was thinking and he should be repremanded but all angles should be looked at bc if he was really trying to get the ball, and then thats a lot different from assult
