I notice a lot of DVD sets have extra bonus features, rare clips, interviews, commercials etc. What DVD set has the best? Who has the worst or the most overrated features?

6 months ago, I'd say The Simpsons. But I'd say Seinfeld hands down now. The effort Sony put into that set is better than I've ever seen on a tv DVD and even the majority of movie DVD's. That thing is so loaded and complete.
The worst would have to be Paramount and Universal's bare bones releases, we would love to see extras for shows like Charmed, Taxi, etc... but yet we don't. |

My vote goes to Seinfeld and Futurama. Cheers has OK features, not many though.

The set with the best bonus features in the history of tv on dvd is the Freaks & Geeks Yearbook Edition.
In addition to the 6 discs worth of episodes, with at least one commentary on every single episode (some episodes have two commentary tracks), there's deleted scenes, audition footage, behind the scenes footage, network promos, and bloopers. And that's all available on the regular edition. As for the limited edition, it's packaged in an 80 page yearbook, with tons of pictures and stories. You get two discs of even more bonus material: a 75 minute Q&A session with the cast at the Museum of Television & Radio, three complete table reads (that's the cast going through the entire script in character), photo galleries, more promos, more audition tapes, more behind the scenes footage, more deleted scenes and even more stuff that I don't know what to call it. I doubt any other set will come close to what's on this one. Granted, it's the complete series, so the bonus material won't be spread out over various seasons. In this case, everything is concentrated on one release. Still, Freaks & Geeks Yearbook Edition is the one to beat. |

The best DVD for bonus features has to be the Seinfeld releases. They're brilliant. The UK releases of Seasons 5 and 6 seem to continue the excellent bonus features, so it should be well worth the money (about Ł26 on Amazon).
The worst I have are The Golden Girls/Home Improvement (Buena Vista) and All In The Family (Sony). For Golden Girls, there's only a fashion commentary for Season 1 and a quiz for Season 2. Home Improvement only has clips of funny moments from the show (which you've already watched in the episodes!), and the bonus material is non-existent for AITF. |
