She was really normal when the show started, and progressively got worse with each season. I think the shorter the hair the more "loopy" she became. But I posted this before, did you ever notice how almost everyone got a little more stupid the longer the show ran or eventually ended up being a gay character?

Mark - Introduced as a rebel, ended up acting really stupid by the end of the show
David - Had some what of a backbone when he was introduced then ended up being like a little lost dog by the end, Remember he wanted to be that rabbit in one episode (that was dumb)
Becky #1 - was smart and sarcastic
Becky #2 - seemed to be more of an airhead
Jackie - no explanation needed
Bev - Married mother annoying but not gay in the beginning, but in Roseanne fashion she finally was able to come out the closet and then started to act a bit loopy
Nancy - Liked men in the beginning and had somewhat a bit of smarts, but again before the show ended she was into women and started to get a bit of the airhead qualities
DJ - Never the smartest kid on the block but you would think that he could at least not act as dumb as he came off
Dans Mom - We see her in an episode and she doesnt seem to be crazy, but by the end of the show she is way out there
Arnie - another character that was dumb
Nana Mary - not a major character but she wasnt that smart either kinda loopy
Crystal - She was a bit out of her box on some episodes

Then there was Leon and his boyfriend they were always gay, but yet another gay character
When the show ends we find out Jackie was gay
Seems that everyone either found out they were really stupid and couldnt keep up the smart act anymore or they came out the closet with the exception of the people that lived in Roseannes house.
It no wonder Fred left Jackie never to be seen again!!!!!

Now, I have nothing against gay people but come on in Roseanne land it seems that you are either stupid or stupid and gay and if you have any intelligence then you are straight. Realize only the people who played smart characters were straight. Seems Roseanne portrayed gay people as being a bit loopy.

One of the best episodes of Jackie in the later seasons was when she gets the computer. HAHA. Also when Becky holds the baby and Jackie freaks out and is all crazy over how she is holding the baby. LOL.

Thanks for the post, Heather. I know it takes a lot of time and effort to list and document relevent information!

I always liked Jackie. You are correct in that most of the characters evolved into something different. Whether or not we liked it (the Mark thing), that is how life sometimes goes. Maybe they stretched things, but that's kinda how people change.

My main gripe is the last episode and how they wiped out everything we all lived and grew with. I think it was an insult to our interest and dedication to the show. Just my opinion! Sorry, everyone!

By the way, I still watch several episodes a day!

I think Jackie just really began to lose it because of everything that had happened to her before she went looney & goofy in the later seasons. In the 1st couple of seasons Jackie was rational and seem to carry herself in a mature manner. I think all of the stress with her abuse with Booker, the failed marriage with Fred, constantly worrying about Roseanne & her family,Roseanne constantly controlling her, the drama with her mother butting in her life.. not to mention her childhood all may have taken a toll on her by the later seasons. Which may be a reasons why she ended up being so looney!

Jackie blaming Bev for everything terrible that occurred in her life is nonsense. Bev didn't have it great either. Married to a man who cheated on her for years.

Jackie had a great man in Booker and also Gary. Great guys and she dumps them. She was ********. She dumped Gary and then regretted it, causing her to sleep with Arnie. When she and Fred were having marriage problems, they visited a therapist (Ellen DeGeneres). How many times was Jackie going to have to visit a therapist in her life for everything that went wrong? When was she going to stand up and own up to her mistakes?

Jackie didn't blame Bev for everything. However, Bev was a costant stress in Jackie's life, so Jackie had every right to blame Bev for some things. But to say Jackie blamed her mom for everything is an over-statement.

Plus, Bev acted crazy BEFORE she knew about the affair. So there was no excuse for Bev prior to knowing about the affair.

Wow.

Everyone makes mistakes, that does not make them "********". Plus, going to a therapist his healthy. And clearly Jackie did realize she made a mistake with Gary, or she wouldn't have regretted. It seems to me she did, "own up to it" in that situation. Honestly, going to a therapist is a good thing and a smart decision and does NOT mean she isn't owning up to her mistakes. Kudos to Jackie.

You don't know how Bev's husband treated her. He was cheating on her for years, that is not healthy for any relationship, just because she wasn't aware of it right away doesn't mean it didn't affect her. You don't think the husband ignored Bev? You don't think that the husband treated her shabbily? You think he gave her emotional support? I doubt it. He probably treated her so badly when he was around her and when he was traveling out of town. The mere fact he took punishment to a different level with his girls (abuse is the word that was used to describe how their father treated them) can also mean that he may have emotionally and/or physically abused Bev. I cannot fathom a man who abuses his children NOT taking it out on his wife as well. There are many forms of abuse. I am so darn certain that Jackie's problems stemmed from the abuse of their father. Jackie, for whatever reason, seemed to defend her father and loved him, although Roseanne had to remind her from time to time that he abused them.

Having been to therapy myself in my life, I know the benefits of it. And as I learned from therapy, you can only blame someone for so long. When do you own up to your mistakes? That is what I was shown.

As for Jackie, she didn't seem to get a grip on what was going on. She blamed Roseanne for trying to control her life. I said it once and I will say it again, no one can control you or tell you what to do unless you let them. Roseanne behaved liked Bev in that dept. She was only WANTING THE BEST FOR JACKIE. Bev knew that Jackie had smarts and the potential to make something of her life. She told her so. Jackie was a failure because she didn't know what she wanted out of her life. It is easy to blame others for your own downfall. If there was any blame, it is the father for cheating on his ENTIRE FAMILY by carrying on with another woman for years. He was married to Bev, but by having an affair, he cheated on his wife and kids. The time he spent with that other woman giving her love and comfort is what he should have been doing with his wife and kids.

Jackie made mistakes, but that is the whole point, THEY ARE HER MISTAKES. No one made her make them, so she should have owned up to that fact and realized it.

Its difficult this one because all the way throu the seasons of Roseanne, they all seemed to of hated bev so watching that you think that bev was an terrible parent. They should of included bev's life more into the show so the audience knew more of what bev had to of put up with, with having a terrible marriage etc..Bevs character was a main one in the show so i wished that we'd of seen more of her and her hushand in the first few seasons and so on.Shes a great actress that should of got far more better scenes.

Great point. It's easy to remark after seeing the entire season, how Bev was misunderstood and treated. As you watched it for the first time, you had to believe from how she was disrespected that she had to have been this horrible person. When in fact, she had been in a marriage that was not happy. We have to assume from the later episodes that Bev was at least emotionally abused, starved for affection, etc.
