Post Controversial Episodes???

Which episodes do you guys think will donned as controversial by Nick at Nite? My guess is that one where Alex gets hooked on diet pills and the one when Uncle Ned visits and gets drunk and hits Alex. What do you guys think?

I think the one where Mallory's pregnant friend asks Elyse for advise will not be shown on Nick. Or probably where Nick's dog gets hit by a car and has to put him to sleep. I know the one where a family friend hits on Mallory, that one will definately not be shown on Nick. How about the two part one where Uncle Rob gets divorced and his daughter runs off with some guy? Probably not gonna be shown.

Where do you think they're broadcasting this from, communist China?

I can't see them actually taking out episodes because they are too "mature" for some audiences. Christ, the show aired on regular TV. Why wouldn't they show all the episodes? Especially when they air All In The Family where every episode has subject matter that skirts the line between acceptable and taboo.

Exactly, GM. I mean right now they are airing the king of taboo and double-entendres (for that time), "Three's Company". I wouldn't deem any of those "Ties" episodes as controversial, just of a more serious tone. If any, it would be a couple from the last season dealing with racism and book banning, but other than that...

And if they do ban the Uncle Ned ep., I'm glad I taped it a few years ago off TBS.

"Hey, Uncle Ned, don't do that. Gimme those."
"Leave me alone."
"I said GIMME THOSE!"
"LEAVE ME ALONE!!" (SLAP!)

Cool

Networks aren't given the choice of editing things out of episodes. They purchase them in packages, pre-edited for commercials and everything. They might blackout on certain words or something, but I've never seen an individial network do something like that.

But Nick-at-Nite buys full copies and edits parts out itself.

Where did you hear that Sean? Detective Griffin has it right. I think it's the opposite, the syndicators make the cuts - Nick at Nite just buys the rights to the episode. There may be an occasional word or line that Nick at Nite mutes out, but for the most part they air the episodes as the syndicator sells them. For example, the TC episodes were edited by the official TC people - not Nick at Nite.

I've read it off a couple of places. I think Terry Ross said that on the ILL Board too.

Last nite was the first time I ever saw this show, and I couldn't believe it showed an ep where he takes speed! If that can be shown, why can't some of the FOL eps like that be shown? Oh yeah, I'm not picking on FT. I thought it was GREAT and I can't wait to see more eps!

That is correct, Todd - In 95% of the times, the networks buy the episodes as is and do not have the rights to do any changes or cuts at all to them. On most cases, any cuts are already made when the networks get their master tapes. I don't know how it is with Nick at Nite though, but I would be surprised if it would be any different.

I wonder how it is in England though, where many shows are censored and cut down - Wonder who makes those cuts...

You are so ridiculous. They already showed the "Say Uncle" episode during the marathon. Why would they not show it again.
