So who here is Canadian and where are you living?

I'm living in Caledon, a rural area just north of Toronto.

I was born in Vancouver, British Columbia; I am also have dual citizenship of both Canada and the US...

I drank a few Molsons last night and cooked some Canadian bacon this morning. Does that count for anything?

I've been wanting to move to Canada for the free health care and the quality public transportation! Plus, I love those $2 coins. Can I count?

We can make you and Steve M. honorary Canucks!! Bring yer hockeysticks and we'll have a pickup game in the street!! We'll drink lots of Molson's and Labatt's and BBQ some backbacon (btw - when you guys say "Canadian Bacon" - to us that's just ham - you should try the REAL stuff covered with cornmeal - ya can't beat it)!! I don't "do" poutine though - that's more French Canadian (french fries, with gravy and cheese curd - bleeechhh)! We'll all sit around afterwards watching U.S. shows, hoping that they'll mention Canada or Canadians on it (doesn't matter if its a shot either - we just like to be remembered)!!

Cool! Was it because one or both of your parents are American and you were born here that you've got duel citizenship? I thought that was the only way you could pull that off, although I recently heard that when Michael J. Fox took out his American citizenship, he also retained his Canadian. Didn't think you could do that. My aunt held off taking her U.S. citizenship because she would have to totally give up her Canadian status if she did (it was only because if she dies in the U.S., which she will, the government would step in and nab 50% of her estate - this way its protected).

Actually our healthcare was among the best in the world a few years ago, but our government has managed to put an end to that!! Its still mostly covered, but more and more services aren't and there's less and less doctors (at least in Ontario) than ever before. I haven't had a family doctor in about 5 years now and 50,000 people in this province alone don't have one. I go to some dude who's a hippy leftover from the 60s!!
We do have rocking transportation though, wide open spaces, friendly people, cool money - as you say, $1 $2 coins (I pity men who have to fill their pockets with it tho) and very cool, colourful money!!! (Drives me nuts when I go to the U.S. - I'm constantly having to double-check to make sure I'm handing over a buck and not a $10 bill!!!) You guys laugh at the colour of our money, but it sure makes it a lot easier!!

And yes, we do eat beaver up here !! < wink, wink >!!!

We know one bill from another by the historical figure on the front - Washington, Lincoln, Jackson, etc. I like the fact that we don't put the Queen of England on our money, but I don't like the fact that we put the words IN GOD WE TRUST on it (money is the root of all evil! ).

Yes, that is correct, my parents are both born here in the US, my father took a job in BC for a few years where I was born, then when I was two years old my family moved to California.

Personally I love both countries!
British Columbia is so incredible beautiful! BUT EXPENSIVE, but then again so is California...The Eastern part of Canada, I absolutely LOVE Toronto, it is one of my favorite cities in the world next to London and San Francisco...

I would not mind living here for the rest of my life, absolutely stunning of a city, even though it is mightly cold in the winter time, but oh well!

you do NOT have to renounce your citizenship for either country, although neither country "officially" recognizes dual citizenship.

the ONLY country that requires you to renounce your prior citizenship is Australia.

Once you are born in a British Common Wealth Country, you never loose your citienship, though I was born in Canada and moved to the US when I was only two years old and became an American citizen as well, I will never loose my Canadian citizenship, if you are an American Citizen and you decide to become a (let's say a British citizen) you loose your American citizen and you cannot became a dual citizen, if vice versa you can, if that makes sense.

Eek - having to learn which prez on which bill - too much work for us Hosers - much easier to color coordinate!!!

Yeah, we're not too thrilled with Her Nibs mug on the money either, but you should see how easily you can turn her into Alice Cooper - the magic of black markers!!! Hey - at least it's not Charles and/or Camilla's pics!!
