Predicting The Skeds: Part 6 - The WB
The WB shot itself in the foot this season long before it ever began, when it got complaints from "O.C." director McG not to air his new drama "The Mountain" in the same timeslot. So "The Mountain" moved to Wednesdays, and "Blue Collar TV" and "Drew Carey's Green Screen Show" were sent to Thursdays. Now, the only one surviving is "Blue Collar". I think the 3 shows would all be surviving (and thriving) if The WB hadn't given in. Anyway, let's see if The WB can find a comedy this season that will hit. Anything. Anything at all. Not called "Reba". Already In: "7th Heaven", "Blue Collar TV" 99.9% Chance It's Back: "Gilmore Girls", "Everwood", "One Tree Hill", "Smallville", "Reba" Decent Shot at Renewal: "What I Like About You", "Charmed" On the Bubble/Too Early to Tell: "Steve Harvey's Big Time", "Jack & Bobby", "Living with Fran" Not a Chance: "The Mountain", "Drew Carey's Green Screen Show" Sunday 7:00 Steve Harvey's Big Time (New Time) 8:00 Charmed 9:00 Halley's Comet (New Series) I give "Big Time" one more shot despite losing it's audience in a transition from Thursday to Sunday. "Charmed" is on it's last legs, but still performs well. As for a companion, nothing's worked yet, and they've tried everything. I would go with "Everwood" or "One Tree Hill" or even "Summerland", but The WB doesn't wanna throw one of it's mainstays to the dogs so David E. Kelley's latest vehicle, "Halley" should be a compatable choice. Monday: 8:00 7th Heaven 9:00 Everwood No reason to mess with success here, but expect "Everwood" to break for another season of "Summerland" about mid-year. Tuesday: 8:00 Gilmore Girls 9:00 One Tree Hill Same thing, expect something in "Hill's" place at midseason to give it a break. Wednesday: 8:00 Smallville 9:00 Nobody's Watching (New Series) 9:30 The Evolution of Man (New Series) Now is The WB's shot at trying coemdy. "Scrubs" creator Bill Lawrence and the writing combo of Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan ("Scrubs" as well as some of the best episodes of "Family Guy") bring what will likely be the Fall's best comedy, a show where 3 guys win a reality TV show to create their own TV show. After, either this single guys-seek dating help comedy, or "Liquid Generation TV" an acid paced animated sketch comedy, that could breakout on the popularity of "Robot Chicken" on Cartoon Network. Thursday: 8:00 Blue Collar TV 8:30 The Ron White Show (New Series) 9:00 Mobile Home Disaster (New Series) April 28 will be key for all 3, since the backdoor pilots for "White" and "Disaster" all air on this night. Don't be surprised if this becomes a big night for The WB in the Fall. Friday: 8:00 Living with Fran (New Time) 8:30 What I Like About You (New Time) 9:00 Reba 9:30 Untitled Camryn Manheim Project (New Series) "Fran" is pretty much garanteed to be a hit out of the gate, if the millions who watched the "Designing Women" reunion ON CABLE have anything to do with it. That could mean new life for "What I Like" and a shot for Camryn Manheim's latest vehicle, the only "Family" comedy on The WB's pilot list. |
