Default What I Think Lions Gate Should Do

I don't understand how the syndication episodes of ALF can be in much better condition than the original broadcast episodes. That doesn't make any sense. That's a pretty lame excuse not to release the original series. Look at some of the much older TV shows that are released on DVD and are released in their original format and they are in great condition. ALF is only from the mid 1980's so its not a real old TV show. The ALF Files was released in 2002 by Video Service Corp (VSC) and they contain 3 uncut episodes of ALF and they are in great condition. How can Lions Gate use that excuse not to release the original broadcast episodes? Doesn't make any sense. What I think Lions Gate should do is either sell the ALF - Season Sets over to Video Service Corp (VSC) and let them release the original broadcast series or Lions Gate can spend the money for the original broadcast series and sell them in the stores for double the amount. For example, ALF - Season 1 (syndication episodes) is selling in stores for around $30.00 - $40.00, they could sell the original broadcast episodes for $70.00 - $80.00. That way Lions Gate can use that extra money to pay back for using the original broadcast series. If people want the original broadcast episodes that bad, they can pay the bigger amount of $70.00 - $80.00. I would even pay $100.00 (per season set) for the original broadcast episodes rather than pay $30.00 - $40.00 for syndication episodes (per season set). I think many fans of ALF would rather pay a bigger amount for the original broadcast episodes (per seaon set) than pay a smaller amount for syndication episodes (per season set). The idea of releasing a TV show is to release it with the original uncut episodes, not edited junk. Anyone agree to this and think that this might be a great idea?

I totally agree, but they should be able to sell the real episodes for say $50.

Default My take.

I bought the syndicated episodes in February 2005, even after all the booing and hissing of the job done by Lions Gate. I didn't even notice a difference, but this is just me. BUT... I would much rather unsyndicated versions.
Also, why should we pay 60 bucks for an unsyndicated set if they existed? Check out your local DVD store or Amazon, and see how low the prices are for your average TV DVD boxset, with uncut episodes. My point is if you don't like the set, stay away from the set, if you do, buy it. Both of those views can be talked about on this board, because after all, thats what these boards are all about is talking about your favorite TV Shows. However, is there really a need to verbally attack anyone with a different opinion about something? And of all things, a DVD set, you are arguing about? I think you should all take my advice and all be board buddies again. ( i like that, "board buddies") Anyway, do what you want, but at least take my advice into suggestion?

Your "board buddy",
Pat.

does any body notice how universal releases of tv shows on dvd are sooooooo expensive. Those sets are like 60 bucks and they don't have any special features.

Oh --- on 100 bucks per dvd set. I would pay that money too for alf, but i think LG released it cheaper and used syndication prints so they could produce the dvds and have a shot at everyone, not just HARDCORE alf fans buy the sets, which would have ended up happening if no one was willing to pay 100 for the set. Going back to the universal sets, im so glad none of my favs are universal releases, they are so expensive. I can buy two alf sets for one set of a universal release.

Who knows too, maybe LG couldn't get the un-syndicated cuts from Warner. They aren't releasing crap from their vaults.
