For those of you who haven't heard "We Are the World" was done by "USA for Africa" was the song that featured Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Cyndi Lauper, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen and a bunch of other artists including Ray Charles the one that it was sung in the finale. The song was #1 on the pop charts and sold 7,500,000 copies. The song was raised $50 million for the famine relief effort. Hundreds or even thousands of radio stations around the world had played that record simultaneously. I remember being in Puerto Rico as a kid heard that song on some spanish speaking radio stations in which they thrown a lot of hit songs in english. I have the song on both the 45 and the record album of the same name. I remember back in January that Ms. Jones, one of the morning team at Hot 97 in New York City was suspended for playing the "Tsunami Song" which was a parody of "We Are the World" because of racism. The song removed from Hot 97's Ms. Jones morning show. Do you remember that? The original song was 20 years ago this week.

And twenty years later, Africa still starves and the song still sucks!

Thanks for the lyrics Safety Pin, the "MP3 song" was kinda similar to the "Tsunami Song" were Hot 97 was played was temporary removed from the air, because of racism.

This song is a classic. I was in 5th grade when the song came out. We sanged this song in music class, in choir, and during assemblies. This song does not suck! My favorite part was when Stevie Wonder and Bruce Springsteen were singing together.

I never liked this song one bit, but for whatever reason I liked a tune called Voices that Care that was a similar kind multiple artists thing that was done during the Gulf War. In the film Wag the Dog they did a parody of that song, with the politicians fomenting a war to get John Travolta elected and the various singers come in and sing some rather meaningless heart tugging tune like these.
