Hey, to each his or her own. Dude tells me he performs better that way. We work in a mailroom and I knew he smoked weed just by looking at him. But smoking it on the job is another story. Yesterday, he went out for a break, and when he came back, his jacket was smelling like it. He should do a better job at concealing that. I think upper management knows he does it, but he's an excellent worker and he's been there for years. So they won't do anything. It is times where dude looks fu-cked up on the job. LOL. Oh well, long as he does his job, that's more important. I don't give a f-ck. It ain't me.

How can he do his job if he's baked?
This guy isn't using heavy machinery or anything, is he?

That's a great career move! Yeah, that'll get him far! You mention that you think upper management know, but that he's an "excellent worker" and has "been there for years". THAT'S WHY HE'S STILL IN THE MAILROOM after being there for years!! The mailroom has always been considered the "entry" level area of a company. Usually people will start there and are promoted or work their ways into other depts. in more responsible job classes. Since you say he's been there for years, obviously his actions are noticed by somebody and that's why he's still in a dead-end job!! Sooner or later it'll catch up with him and he'll be back in the unemployment line! One of my brothers used to do the same thing where he'd work. He jumped from mediocore job to job and now hasn't worked in 14 years and problably couldn't handle working at any job now if he tried! Smoking weed on the job daily will only give you experience in becoming a professional bum in the long run!! |

I would never put up with that. I'd probably call the police if the bosses wouldn't do anything about it.

Frankly so would I! Sooner or later he could cause an accident. And at the least, he's taking a good job away from someone who would act responsibly and do their best.
They said he's a good worker, but just think how much better he'd be if he kept himself straight while working. No matter what, pot makes you lazy - especially with long term use. Be a little more observant and I'll be you'll notice that he really isn't pulling his full weight and his co-workers are getting stuck. Its not fair to the rest of you working there. |

3 words--Random Drug Testing.
Alot of companies now are into the 'drug free environment' no matter what occupation it is. I don't know why your company doesn't do that. You think maybe upper managemant takes a toke once in a while, that's why they don't confront this guy about it? |

Exactly! Doesn't speak well of the company.
Actually, the last company I worked for, I was very good friends with the HR Manager and I had known her for years before working there even. We all knew about each other's private lives and that we too, liked to parttake in the odd toke occasionally, but it still was never tolerated on the job!!! I knew and expected that if I ever showed up high or got high during work it was grounds for immediate dismissal - even though I knew upper management did it too - but on their OWN time - not when you're being paid for it. Some companies have "snitch" lines. Extensions you can call and anonymously advise them of things going on that shouldn't be. You should find out if your company has that. Honestly, I would go to HR about it and if no action is taken, tip the cops off. I know people don't like being snitches, and neither do I, but when this guy's probably getting paid MORE than I am for the same work, and is obviously buzzed, then he can't be doing as good a job as his peers and its not fair to them or you. |

Eww...I can't even stand it when patients come in smelling like smoke, let alone weed.

Years ago when I did tech work for trade shows, I think I was one of a small group of workers who wasn't under the influence of some substance at any time of the day.

When I was in 8th grade, a senior at my alma mater smoked pot on the bus. I remember smelling it and I thought, "What the heck is that?" It wasn't until the bus driver pulled over the bus that I found out what it was.

Years ago it was a running joke about workers at Canada Post (a GOV'T agency) and how groups of them would go to a corner during breaks and snort Coke and then go back. It got so bad, that they actually found powder residue in several corners of the sorting plant!! Once they clamped down and ordered random drug testing and spot checks, its amazing how theft dropped dramatically and how the mail seemed to make it through faster and much more accurately! Other than asprins, drugs have no place in the workplace! |

Weed smells so repulsive, I'd rather have crap smashed in my face than have to smell marijuana smoke. Not even kidding, either. I would report him.
