Default Some of the strange requests I see from TV Show Traders

1.I found it so weird when a trader is looking for the COMPLETE SERIES of a certain TV Show. My question is who has time to copy an entire series?

2.Second thing I find weird is a trader is looking for hard to find tv shows on DVD when the show hasn't been found on VHS-lol

Those are the two things that makes me laugh so hard when tape trading.

Cool

solomon

i collect shows as complete series here are some of the reasons why

1.instead of having shows all over the place my tapes can be neatly labelled and are often already in airdate order, thanks to some very efficient traders

2.i often get requests for particular episodes and i don't have to scratch my head wondering if i have it .i recently sent 2 episodes of a show half way round the world just so the trader could complete his set !!

3.completing a series piece by piece can be very time consuming and very costly for someone like me,so i like to get it over and done with.

it is surprising just how many people out there do have complete sets of shows even rare ones.i would say for the good dozen or more shows that i am after i have recieved offers for complete sets on everyone of them.
also the time taken to make copies for me doesn't seem to bother most traders/sellers as long as i am wiling to pay/trade accordingly!!

So are you usually ready to wait more than a month to receive the complete series of a certain show once you start a trade?

yes!

i am prepared to wait a month or two if i think it will be worth it.often i get surface mail 8 weeks just to keep costs down,so my package usually takes that long anyway!
for one show i wanted i was prepared to wait 6 months and that was for only half the series!!!!!

I don't miind waiting and have waited as well.

and the DVD requests are not unusual because it is actually faster to make than VHS tapes. I have a burner that isn't hooked up to my computer. Ten minutes and the DVD is done. Ten minutes of copying over six hours on VHS.

I can turn it around and say it is amazing how many people out there have not discovered how more efficient and quick it is to trade DVDs and have much better quality than to still be stuck in the middle ages with primative VHS tapes.

But that is just me. The future is a reality. why do you think this is no longer considered the TAPE TRADING board. and now just the trading post.

I as a DVD trader am laughing at you.

believe me! if i could afford a dvd recorder i would have one now, they are so much better than tapes.a lot of the shows i am receiving now are offered to me on dvd.another thing is it is so much cheaper for traders/sellers to send sample dvd's so i can view the quality that i get a better chance of not getting burned!

I'm talking about RARE TV SHOWS from 30 years ago that never went into syndication. Why the hell would i ask for that on DVD?

If its on VHS it could easily be transferred to dvd, therefore making it not an unusal request.

That is true but you still hae to find out if the show even EXIST before asking for it on DVD. Take a show like One Day at a Time, it has been hard to find this show on VHS for years so it's silly to look for it on DVD.

With most people (it seems to me) now doing dvds and with dvd burning speeds now up to 16X, time is hardly a factor so far as copying is concerned. The amount of time you'd spend building a complete series doing it episode by episode is vastly longer. It is sooo much more convenient to do it in one fell swoop.

True that if a video isn't available on any format then it's not going to show up on dvd either, but IF it is available on VHS then clearly it's only a matter of time till someone who has a copy gets around to archiving it onto dvd. Unfortunately, there is no central database to determine what's been found and what hasn't so all one can do is ask around for what they're looking for. I'm not so sure that I would call that weird - how would one ever know if what they wanted was available or not if they didn't ask?

When it comes to very hard to find tv shows, DVD should be considered a Plus. Someone on here was looking for Brady TV Shows and I informed him I have the very rare BRady Bunch Variety Hour from 1977 and then he asked was it on DVD. I said no and he never replied back-lol I guess he think this is 2056

Perhaps. It depends upon whether or not the person who has very hard to find tv shows has a dvd recorder or not. If they do, it should be expected, not considered a plus.

I have a theory that says that no show is hard to find. It either exists and can be found with varying degrees of effort, or it simply doesn't and therefore is impossible to find. For examples I would say that (most episodes from) the last 2 seasons of Mannix and the series Loves Me, Love Me Not simply do not exist anywhere. Sort of like the post you made a while back about one missing episode of Joannie Loves Chachi where the guy who recorded the rest of the series missed one ep - did anybody else record (and keep) it? Or does it not exist for the getting? What do you think, any merit to that?

The thing with rarity is that old shows like that, where there is likely only one master copy around, only remain rare if they are not traded. If you didn't record that BB Variet Hour yourself, then you got it from someone. How many people did the guy you got it from trade it to as well? How many people have you traded it to? And how many of them have traded it? etc. Rarity loses meaning pretty quickly once something gets out into the trading community. Rest assured that someone in the community will put it onto dvd well before 2056, if it hasn't been done already.

Well when I say rare, i mean that the show is not being shown on cable and hasn;'t been for years or on VHS or DVD. I'm still looking for Checking In and have come to the conclusion that it doesn;t exist. Hopefully I'm wrong but I know I would never ask for it on DVD-lol

putting another spin on what your saying!

i would also not ask for a show that i considered to be in the pocession of 1 or 2 traders if it could be put on dvd.and here's why

1. i now consider the tape trading boards to be more of a sellers market than a buyers market.i used to be able to ask every question known to man and the trader/seller would happily answer them.i was averaging more than 10 replies per request.but now i ask only the bare minimum because the person on the other end gives up a lot easier and i am also only averaging about 3 replies

2.when i know a show is scarce i just want to receive it in any format i can play,i now let the trader/seller tell me wether it can be put on dvd

what frustrates me is if this was a perfect world we could take a master copy of a show we all wanted, form a group and distribute that copy to every member who would make a copy for themselves and then hand it back to the ringleader.i have heard this done on other sites/groups but there would have to be lots of rules and regulations!!
