After seeing the post the other day about the new NBC exec. I decided to write a nice letter to them. Maybe if we are lucky they will take notice. Below is the email I sent to Patricia Cabello at NBC Burbank. I also CC'd Kevin Reilly and Jeff Zucker. Let's keep our fingers crossed!
------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dear Ms. Cabello, I would like just a few moments of your time to express my thoughts regarding the renewal, or non-renewal as it may be, of NBC’s American Dreams. As an avid watcher of this show, and many other fine NBC shows, I am concerned that proper attention has not been given to this show. As such, there appears to be a genuine mystery as to whether or not the show will be included in next season’s lineup. As I’m sure you are aware, American Dreams has a large fan base that is concerned with keeping quality family programming on TV. With the excessive influx of reality shows constantly bombarding us on a daily basis, it’s refreshing when a show the caliber of American Dreams shows up on any networks schedule. If you are privy to the various fan sites surrounding the show you are no doubt aware of the passion the fans of the show exude. There is a genuine concern that the show is destined for cancellation based solely on the ratings numbers. While we all know this is the major indicator of a shows success, we also know there have been instances in the past where a show was allowed to survive on its merits rather than shear numbers. American Dreams is one of those shows. The recent move from the Sunday time slot to Wednesdays was curious one. Some have said it was to be the death blow for the show. But I wonder if any show of this type could actually survive the numbers game in any time slot. Granted, family programming is not the norm today. Police shows, once again, rule the drama scene. Scripted comedies are a dying flavor right now. And as I said before, reality shows rule the airwaves. Placing a show such as American Dreams anywhere in a lineup leaves it little chance of success. This is why the numbers alone should not be the deciding factor of the shows fate. A personal friend of mine was a grip on the show. He would often call me during filming to let me know who the musical acts were. He loved the cast and crew and said it was one of the best shows he has ever worked on. This is an important show on many levels to many people. It would mean a lot to those of us who watch the show to know what the decision of NBC is with regard to its future. If you, or anyone else, could enlighten us it would be appreciated by all. If this is not in your area of expertise, please forward this message on to those who are involved with the decision making process. In closing, I would urge you to visit some of the fan sites to get a feel for the passion that surrounds this show. To see what those who watch it, almost religiously, have to say. And to hear why the show means so much to them. One of the main sites is located at http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/...play.php?f=380. This is a direct link to one of the many American Dreams forums out there where the fans are discussing the issues I have mentioned here. Please take a moment to see what we all are saying about the show. I think you will be surprised. I thank you for your time and I hope you have a wonderful day. Sincerely, (name removed for posting) |
