Default AI4 - Wednesday Night Encore; Results on Thursday

RESULTS SHOW ON THURSDAY, NOT FRIDAY, as the post title says.

This was already posted in the discussion thread, but I decided to make a new topic so everyone will know.

From Idolonfox
Quote:
LIVE WEDNESDAY “PERFORMANCE SHOW” WITH A RE-VOTE

IMPORTANT PROGRAM NOTE CHANGE
Due to an error with the graphics shown on-screen (incorrect voting numbers were displayed) during the performance recap at the end of last night’s AMERICAN IDOL, a live, one-hour show will air tonight, Wednesday, March 23 9/8c on FOX, to enable a re-vote. This new show will combine new live elements with encores of Tuesday’s performances from the remaining 11 contestants.

Phone lines will open at the conclusion of tonight's show and will remain open for two hours to give viewers the chance to vote for their favorite contestants and keep them in the competition. Only the voting results from tonight’s show will determine who received the lowest number of votes and will be sent home this week. Tune in to see who America has chosen to stay and who is sent home on the live results show tomorrow, Thursday, March 24 9/8c live on FOX.
The most important part of that is: ONLY THE VOTES FROM TONIGHT COUNT. Which means that all the voting from last night was a waste of all our lives >_<. I noticed the error, but I doubt anyone looks at those numbers anyway. It was in the dang recap.

Here was the error that caused this trouble.

The only good thing about this is that I get to see Carrie and Anthony, whom I missed yesterday.

Results is Thursday, not Friday.

This looks like a big mess to me. FOX really screwed this one up. A lot of people will tune in tonight expecting to see results.

Oh crud. Oops.

And yeah, it's a huge mess.

The one thing I'm confused about is -- is this just going to be a repeat of last night's show or is it gonna be totally new performances, since it's "live"!?

Not sure... some portions will be live, but I'm not sure if the performances will. I would guess no, since they only have a few hours to get ready.

Ugh who the hell even reads those?! Not only that, but they didnt even go LIVE which means they had plenty of time to make sure everything was right.

Wow, that really sucks I was really looking forward to tonights results, but now they're not having them til tomorrow night

Good thing I have yahoo.....that's how I found out they did those mistakes with the numbers.

But didn't everyone just know anyway? Like for example, Miklah.....she was the 9th singer last night, right? Well, didn't everyone know to just push the "9" button and not the 1?

wow this could really help some of the contestants and possibly hurt some of the good contestants. I don't think as many casual watchers and voters will vote tonight-- especially not a second time. To be fair, Idol should just replay clips of them all from last night. Otherwise, someone who sucked could do great tonight and then change the whole outcome. But for entertainment, I would rather see them all perform again. I can't imagine the judges commenting twice though. Come to think of it, Mik should be thanking her lucky stars. I don't think they would do this whole revote if one of the three with a messed up number wasn't actually the person who had the lowest number of votes.. and out of those three, I think it's safe to say she would have went. And anyone who dialed 1,2, or 3 for Mik, Anwar, and Jess has to be pretty dumb considering they all obviously performed at the end!

oh I completely agree with everything you said! What if people who were great last night suck tonight? And what if some of the ones who weren't very good last night (coughMikalahcough) are great tonight? Yeah, it's the same song, but they can fix mistakes they made last night especially after the judges commented on them already.

And who the hell would dial the little numbers at the bottom anyway? Whenever I vote, I just think of the order the people performed. If anyone dialed the 03 for Jessica, would it not dawn on them that she performed LAST? Seriously I don't want to waste my time voting again. I've got things to do...I already voted yesterday for Constantine about 60+ times as well as some votes for Anthony, Vonzell, and Jessica. This show is ridiculous sometimes...I would say I'm not voting again but I would be pissed if someone I liked left after all this crap, so I guess I'm gonna have to.

Ken Warwick, one of the show's executive producers, just did a conference call with the press to discuss the phone number screw-up and what will happen with tonight's show. Among the things he said:

-He pinned the phone thing on "human error" and said the function was performed by an outside firm; of the guy whose job it was, he said, "We probably won't see him in the building again."
-The performances will be presented uncut from the versions that aired on Tuesday. Everything else will be live: Seacrest explaining what happened, then introducing each clip, then asking the judges if they stand by their comments from the night before.
-On a related note, someone asked about Simon's tendency to comment during the Wednesday shows how different things sounded when he watched at home vs. what he heard in the auditorium; Warwick said that lately, Simon has been watching the dress rehearsals from the sound booth so he has a sense of what they sound like with a good mix, and probably won't be making those comments in the future (including tonight, when it could actually influence a vote or two)
-Warwick insisted that no one involved with the show has any idea what the vote totals were for any contestant. As soon as they heard about the phone number screw-up, they immediately called the firm that tabulates the results and told them to scrap the numbers without informing them.
-The producers briefly considered not kicking anyone out this week and kicking two people out next week, but decided that wouldn't be fair, since they'd only be judged on next week's performances.
-Anyone who text-messaged their votes last night will not be charged for those votes by their cellular company.
-When someone asked a conspiracy theory question -- specifically, whether they manufactured the controversy so Fox could get an extra hour of Idol this week -- he said, "Why would we contaminate the honesty of one of the top-rated shows in America by fiddling with it? You wouldn't do it, you wouldn't put this show at risk for any reason."

That was most of the relevant material. We'll see how it plays out tonight.
Paula told ET
Quote:
"We are going to have the kids on the couch up on the stage, but the judges will be up on the stage as well and what they are going to do is run the clips," Paula explains. "It gives us (the judges) a chance to re-critique them. I may want to change [my opinion]. I am teetering on one or two performers. I am going to watch one more time before I go in today and make that decision."
