Default After Denise left

I liked A Different World up until Denise left...Although she came back to The Cosbys from time to time, she was a
total flake in the later Cos episodes..Couldn't stand her...
Or the show as a matter of fact...it was totally unrealistic.

Too an extent, I liked Denise on A Different World, but the show got better after she left, and Denise as a character was always somewhat flaky, so she didn't really fit into Cosby either.

Ohhhhh, I couldn't stand the character. I loved ADW when she was GONE. I guess Bill wanted to show that all his kids aren't perfect. Well, he succeeded in doing that.

And isn't it ironic that Denise responds in correlation with his second oldest daughter in real life, the one that has had a few problems?

I'm glad when she left too. I don't know what the writers were thinking about giving Denise her own show. She's not good as a lead character in my opinion & all the other actors sorta outshined her in her own show, especially Jasmine Guy.

I keep hearing from friends and family and members on this board that ADW was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Much better when Denise left. One thing no one has told me yet was why was it better. So can someone tell me why they felt the show was better after Denise left?

Here's one of my earliest posts:

http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/....php?p=1213226

EDIT- Read that whole thread Retro, I think we gave some good answers in that thread.

It wasn't so much Denise left and the show got better. It clearly changed from season 1 to season 2. It was an ordinary sitcom with not much to say in the first season. They started slightly dealing with more issues after that and came up with more interesting characters, like Freddie. They fleshed out Whitley's character. Debbie Allen gave the show flavor. It's all around a better show after season 1 (after Denise left).

I feel the same way. ADW was better after the 1st season. I actually wouldn't mind seeing her in something nowadays though.

Yeah it was so much better once she left. They actually dealed with issues once she left the show, Debbie really changed it up with topics like Drinking, Pregnancy, Drugs, AIDS. They dealt with things that young adults deal with now. In season 1 when Denise was on there it seemed like they talked about Dwayne trying to get with her and her money problems and her not passing her classes. That's all I remember when I think of Season 1

I didn't miss Lisa Bonet as much as I thought I would. The rest of the ensemble
carried the show extremely well. As a result, the series was as good as (if not
better than) before.

I guess it didn't have the SPINOFF type of feel once she left. So I remember discovering at the beginning of the 1988-89 season that she was no longer on the show and I stopped watching. I'm just surprised she never made a guest appearance on ADW in the later years since she returned to the Cosby Show in 89-90.

Have you not seen a lot of the episodes after the Denise character left?

I loved A Different World after Denise left, she just didn't fit in and when Debbie Allen took over the show it flowed better. If you didn't watch the show after Denise left then you missed out on a great show that dealt with a lot of real issues that people face today, from AIDS, date rape, gang violence to domestic abuse.
