I know in a prevous thread I wrote that I think the show is doomed simply for business reasons, but I can't help but think that the world has decayed so far that people eating sheep testicles is considered a higher priority than a good family drama.
So, how about re-tooling the show a bit. We strand the Pryor family on an island where Mrs. Pryor loses a tribal challenge and is forced to eat a plate of cockroaches, which she subsequently chokes on and dies, and then the Pryor children have a contest to see who wants to marry their dad. Later, the remaining family is rescued by the doctors from ER in the most heart-stopping episode ever will leave you stunned as Noah Wyle races against time to remove a nuclear device wedged in Matt LeBlanc's ass. Upon their rescue the Pryor's are welcomed at the White House by President Jed Bartlet, who is negotiating the salvation of the earth with an army of hostile aliens, in one of the most emotional reunions ever to take place in The West Wing. Then, on an all new Law & Order, Jack Prior is tried for corruption follwing an investigation by the ghost of Jerry Ohrbach. Compounding the family's troubles...J.J. is fired from his new job with the space program by Donald Trump. It's sad, but this is what people want. Society is in trouble. |

A large majority of Americans want good, decent, wholesome family programing. Remember all those "value voters" from the election, who siad they voted based on "moral values" I hope you're just kidding around. The problem isn't America, the problem is NBC. They have this great show, that is just what a lot of people want, but they don't run ads for it, so few people know it exists. I'll be if NBC ran ads for it like it did for "Law and Order", "The Apprentice", "Joey", and any other number of shows I could name, we would have sky-high ratings. Reality shows are a fad. Fads don't last. Great family programing does.
In the 50s, it was hula-hoops, in the 60s, it was stuffing people into punch-buggies, in the 70s it was disco, in the 80s it was break-dancing, in the 90s, it was the Macerana. Now we look back and laugh. They weren't signs of moral decay, just silly fads that went away, and we now look back on laugh. Not mean laughter, but a collective, "Oh Wow, I can't ever belive the whole country was into that." That's how we we're going to look back at the reality shows. While "American Dreams" will eventually be on "Nick @ Nite", having had a 10 year run. I'm an optimist

Thank you all for the compliments on the humor.
I actually sent that same message to some folks at NBC who responded back similarly. There are no shortage of fans of the show at NBC based on what some friends are telling me over there. Unfortunately, what they are lacking are people like us -- viewers. However, don't be surprised if a show appears next year called Survivor: American Dreamers in the ER. Naturally it will be on Fox. If so, I'll be filing a lawsuit. |
