Todd Mueller - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Hey guys. I noticed someone who posts here uses the name "Todd Mueller" which, some of you may recall, is also the name of a fugitve profiled on UM. It got me thinking, I don't remember ever seeing an update, though I'm sure they must have caught the guy by now. For those who don't remember, Todd Mueller was the slick insurance con-man who operated in Hawaii. He was captured but complained of stomach pains and was taken to the prison hospital where (although he was handcuffed by his foot to the bed) he managed to escape. His story first aired Jan. 29, 1992. Anyone have an update?

He was caught. I don't know the specifics, but there was an update the last time I saw the segment.

What's interesting about Todd Mueller is that the actor who played him in the recreation was Todd O. Russell, who was a production assistant on the show. In later years, he was in charge of shooting Robert Stack's segments.

See? There's stuff you can learn watching the credits of shows 500 times.

(I figured the hard-core viewers would, though...)

I thought that case was intriguing because Todd was so brazen and so smart, yet so careless and sloppy at the same time. I think what did it for me was the scene of him in the tuxedo with the baseball hat on. Now that's classy!

Fun fact I saw today on the Spike version of this case: I work down the block from the bank branch in Honolulu Todd Mueller visits in the reenactment. Guess it really was filmed in Hawaii.

I was watching that today too. It's so cool that they actually went to Hawaii to film the segment.

One of this guy's aliases was Pepito D'Bayan. I thought he was getting just a little bit too hoity toity with that one! lol

I finally got to watch this the other day with my mom and she hasn't laughed so hard in awhile, so I was doubly glad to finally see it. Drives me nuts when y'all make references to episodes/segments I haven't seen!

I just watched it on lifetime today. When he checked into the hotel in Chicago, and forged his cell mate papers from Hawaii to be released, and shared the hotel room with him was kind of weird lol. You had all that money, I'm sure you could've paid for a different room for your former cell mate .

Hands down my favorite fraud case. It is hilarious from start to finish. They picked the perfect actor! The showdown in the hotel hallway is something I rewind again and again when he tries to turn around and go back into the elevator. LOL

I didn't realize this until now but the actor who played Todd Mueller I'm certain also played the role of Larry Munroe, the drifter from the Don Smith case. His voice just sounded familiar to me.

You are right. When I re-watched it on Amazon I kept telling myself that this guy looked familiar.

They were re-creating what they did in prison....a separate room wouldn't have worked.
