Ok, this is a story that me and Kristel (retrogirl82) have been working on for a while. Since I'm busy with school, and Kristel is busy with college, we will try our best to update as frequently as we can. Hope you enjoy the story!
Chapter 1 The day you slipped away Was the day, I found it won't be the same, oh Janet Wood brushed away a tear that she had stubbornly tried fighting all afternoon as she shoved some of her clothes into a duffel bag. As she tucked away her last nightie, her damp eyes fell upon a framed photograph on her nightstand. Her best friend Jack, who was her current roomate, had his arm around her neck in a warm embrace, his tongue poised at her neck in a playful manner. She smiled softly. Jack's always been such a fun guy. She shook her head as she remembered the day that picture was taken. It was right after Chrissy had left to take care of her sick mother, and before Cindy had came along. And it was just Janet and Jack, no one else. She thought though, that maybe it would be a time where she could tell him her true feelings for him. But, she could never do that. He probably didn't even like her back. And she was just talking nonsense. She knew that they would never have a relationship. She frowned as her fond memories were replaced by bitterness as she recalled her mother's phone call around one o'clock that afternoon. "Janet Alyssa Wood, you're coming home," her mother's brisk voice was echoing in her mind. "That Jack Tripper is no good! Living with two girls...why, it's unheard of! I'm picking you up at the airport tomorrow morning, no ifs ands or buts, young lady!" She yelled at her daughter. "But, Mother! You know I've lived with Jack these last few years! Why do you suddenly have a problem with it?" Janet had fired back in an equally cold tone. She loved her mother dearly, but at that moment, she didn't even want to speak to her. She just felt like she was suddenly being personally attacked from her own family. Why were they doing this? "Because...because I do! This is getting to me too much, Janet! If you don't come home now you'll never hear from us again! We'll cut you off financially and emotionally! Young lady, you better be at the Indiana Airport by noon sharp or else!" And with that, her mother had hung up, leaving Janet in stunned silence. Some mother...aren't mothers supposed to CARE about you. Aren't they supposed to love you unconditionally? Janet thought sadly and slammed the phone down in anger. "Hey, where's the fire?" Janet spun around and saw Jack grinning at her from the bedroom doorway. He was wearing his light brown pants and matching vest. He looked handome, he always looked handsome to her -- but she'd never tell him that. She couldn't speak though, because of the state of shock she was still in. She was also glad she had wiped away her tear a bit ago. Obviously, she didn't want Jack to see that she was crying. Of course, she wouldn't mind him comforting her at all. She had gotten so use to it now. But not now, especially when she was shocked more than ever. Or, maybe comfort from him was the thing she needed most. When she didn't answer him, his brow wrinkled and he stepped closer, trying to look at her in the eyes. She averted her gaze, instead focusing on zipping up her overstuffed luggage. "Janet?" he hushed softly. "What are you doing?" He asked confusingly, looking at her bag. She tucked a curl behind her ear, still not looking up at him. Taking a deep breath, she decided that she could trust her voice. "Jack, I've got to go home. I know you and Terri will be happy here by yourselves and can do without me. I-" "What? You're going?" The words coming from Janet's mouth was like a knife stabbing him in the back. Those words were the last thing in the world he wanted to hear, coming from the woman he'd grown to love for all these years. "Janet, what are you talking about?" He looked at her in a confused way, still trying to regain back his conscious from being in the state of shock. "I have to go home...for good. My mother wants me back in Speedway." There was an uncomfortable silence as Jack digested the news. He was shaking his head. "J - Janet.." It was all he could get out of his mouth. He didn't know what to say. "Jack..." She finally looked up at him, a worried look in her eyes. He turned away and quickly rushed out of the room. He couldn't believe the news he had just heard; Janet has to go home! His little Janet, the one he had grown to admire and love for her neverending strength and determination. Suddenly he began thinking of all the times he had spent with her, all the years she had been by his side throughout his troubles, the times when he needed someone, and she was there. She always seemed to bail him out of some misunderstanding, whether it be with a girlfriend or their landlord, Mr. Furley. He would miss that. And more importantly, he would miss her. "Jack?" "Yeah." Janet plopped down beside him on the couch. "I wish there was something I could do to change this. But my family is very important to me....you know, strong Italian family and all. I couldn't bear the thought of my family cutting me off because I live here." She looked down at the floor, afraid that she would cry again. "Wait....why are they cutting you off?" Jack just couldn't understand at all why her family was causing her pain. And him pain too. Janet couldn't avoid Jack's probing blue gaze any longer. She bit her lip and tried to smile. "They think you're some kind of pervert." "Well, we already knew that!" cracked Jack, only half angry. "God, Janet, this is so sudden...I mean, I really didn't expect it to end like this. I don't want you to go. You're just so important to me. You're a great friend. And..I love you." He looked up at her, and tried to smile at he, caressing her cheek. He still couldn't believe what was happening. It was just like his world was slowly falling apart. He just couldn't live without Janet. Not after all the things they've been through. After Chrissy left, then they got Cindy, then she left, then Terri came in. It was always them two. They were the only ones who sticked together the longest. And..I love you Janet suddenly froze. Those words left a mark in her mind. Sure, Jack had said how much he loved her all the time, and it never got old for Janet. She loved hearing him tell her how much he needed her in his life. But this time it was different. There was just something in the way he said it, and he way he touched her. For a minute, Janet actually thought that he actually did love her. But she shook her head slightly, knowing that it wasn't true. But suddenly, her thoughts all disappeared as she felt Jack's lips crush upon hers. |
