I was just going over the reviews for Green Acres - Season 2, and I heard that a few of the episodes are grainy and dusty looking. I'm debating on whether to buy it, or get Sanford and Son - Season 5.
Should I stick with Green Acres or buy Sanford and Son? |

It is true that some episodes, not all, are a bit grainy and look a bit dusty. I think that those are the episodes that were filmed on possibly a poorer grade film, or did not go through in expensive process in restoration.
When I bought the Green Acres VHS boxed set years ago, ALL of the episodes looked like they were old and had film hairs show throughout the show. It did not bother me, but it seems that the people who distributed the VHS tapes (not the Columbia House versions of the tapes) chose to pick the lower grade film transfers for cheaper, and thusly sell it for cheaper as well. I like the boxed set a lot. Different from the first season DVD release, they got rid of those hubs in which you almost had to fear bending the disc in half because the hubs that hold the disc in place were too hard to push. They replaced that type of case with the Lord of the Rings/ Harry Potter case type hubs. That was a major plus. A major minus is that all of the episodes are on a dual sided disc, which means, that you have to practically be a surgeon to get the disc off and to not get finger prints on either side of the disc. The last major minus is the fact that some of the DVDs have little specks or scuffs on the surface of the disc, normal when you have poor cleaning conditions in the DVD labratory process. I was paranoid, so I exchanged mine for another. The next one has the same thing, but in different places. I think that MGM should keep coming out with the rest of the series, but I wished that they would produce at least 2 seasons a year until the entire series is available, and I think that they should shell out an extra $1.00 to make the sets a four disc set so that you do not have to worry about scratching any side of the dual sided DVD. At least that way they will last longer. |

Since Sanford and Son already has 5 out of 6 seasons on DVD, I will help push Green Acres along by buying the Second Season.
