I think they showed them at the same time twice. At those times you can see who's who because Ashley's taller.

I think what you're asking is in the episode where they play Michelle individually, how do you know if Mary-Kate or Ashley played the character? In answer, nobody really knows except the cast and crew of the show. The two are indistinguishable in voice and appearance (unless compared side-by-side), and they both are credited in each episode of Full House.

Another way yu can tell them apart is Ashley is right handed and Mary-Kate is left handed.

This is one of the greatest mysteries of all and here is my hypothesis:

The Olsen twins are shown in the same episode, just in different shots. The way some shows do it, I think, is that they employ one twin for the long shots and another for the close-ups. That's what i think.

Or they could have had one twin play one scene and another one play the next scene. Ahh, the magic of TV.

I was watching Entertainment Tonight about 6 months ago for the full story behind Full House and if I remember correctly the twins were shown together four times and basically the way they dcided which one would do a particular scene especially in the earlier episodes was that whatever one was in a better mood would be used for that scene or episode.

i saw something on E! about the Olsen Twins and I believe at the time Ashley was louder and most of the time played the outgoing michelle and Mary-Kate, if there was an emotional scene, prob. played michelle then

Default strange what you remember...

I remember reading about this is one of those girls magazines (it may have been Barbie magazine...) this was back when the show was still on primetime and everything. The twins were interviewed and they talked about how they alternated scenes but they sometimes fought over who got to be in scenes with nicky and alex.

Thats all I remember from the magazine article...I doubt I still have it but now i wish i did!

I know that this thread was from three years ago. Mary-Kate played the most comical role and Ashley played the most serious role.
