Question The Green River Killer

Did anyone ever see that episode? I think that they should of put that one in the Bizarre Murders set. That one really made me think whether or not that the main suspect was really the Green River Killer

They have DNA evidence that ties Gary Ridgeway to the Green River murder victims, so the case came to a pretty definitive conclusion.

Not only have I seen the segment about the Green River Killer, but I once wrote to UM to suggest that they do a segment on it.

I became intrigued by it. This was a case that had such a long list of potential suspects that some of persons of interest probably never knew that they were being looked into. Additionally, it was a serial murder case that was in danger of never being solved. And this had to do with who those victims were. Some pundits believe that the police would have investigated the cases more vigorously if the victims had been college girls and/or housewives, in lieu of prositutes.

Thankfully, there was a resolution. In 2001, Gary Ridgeway was arrested and charged with several Green River murders, but later pled guilty to 48 murders. The guilty pleas were part of a deal to get life in prison without parole, instead of the death penalty.

I didn't know they had it on Unsolved Mysteries. This case scares me to death (Pardon the pun).

I can't believe it took so long for the police to find the killer. It took years. I read that the police thought it was a cab driver.

Looks like this one is on today's Lifetime schedule. I just read about it on the unsolved.com site.

The entire page there paints a tale of an escaped convict being responsible for 48 murders. The brother of the suspect gives multiple reasons why he thinks his brother is guilty and accuses him of using their parents as an alibi. A neighbor claims to have seen a sex-dungeon in the guy's house. The whole thing is almost as insane as the Bean/Wheeler accusations.

Then, at the very end of all that mud slinging, it turns out that this guy was not involved. Gary Ridgeway was convicted and linked to the murders through DNA evidence. The real killer gets a whopping 4 sentence update at the bottom of the page but we're left with the lingering impression that the other guy (who died in 1991) could have been an accomplice. Very weird....

Apparently another victim of the Green River Killer has been identified after a relative watched the tv movie about the case.

If I remember right, Ridgway was fingered much earlier in the investigation; I want to say the father and brother of a victim were driving around and saw Ridgway's truck, which matched the description of the vehicle the victim was last seen getting into. They tailed it to his house and alerted the police, but apparently they never followed up...
