Well, the subject pretty much says it all, so I'll just dive in! Everyone feel free to post any favorite lines or segments from Murphy!
My first one comes from "But First a Word from Our Sponsor," when Miles is on Murphy's couch, sick as a dog and delirious, saying how he can't possibly fly out of town again that night: "I know there's that slim chance the pilot will die and I'll be asked to fly the plane, and I'll have to say, 'I can't operate heavy machinery.'" [Since one of his medicine bottles said he couldn't.] |

I have a LOT of favorite quotes. The one in my sig, of course, plus a bunch of others:
Murphy(to Miles):I'm sorry, Mr. Silverberg, if it appears I'm being rude to you, but I can't help thinking about the fact that while I was getting maced at the Democratic Convention in '68, you were wondering if you'd ever meet Adam West! Miles (after sneezing and blowing his nose):Oh, God, that looks like the part of my brain that does long divison! Charles Pritchert: Do you have any children, Miss Brown? Murphy:I think I can intelligently discuss your 37-page book without experiencing childbirth! Corky:How do you pronouce this word? (shows him the word) Miles:"Shiite" Corky:Whew! That could've been really embarassing! Murphy(to a Russian journalist):Who can take anything you say seriously, with that accent of yours? You sound like you should be "plottink beeg trouble for moose and squirrell." (Murphy is interviewing Mrs. Hooley, who turns out to be very racist) Murphy:Has anyone ever called you a bigot, Mrs. Hooley? Mrs. Hooley:Who, me? Murphy:No, the other Mrs. Hooley!! I know there are more, but I'm drawing a blank now! |

I don't remember the exact quote, but in one episode when they went on vacation and they tried to make a fire a joke about a zippy log was made and it was the funniest thing ever said IMO.

Two of my favorite quotes come from "Its Just Like Riding a Bike". Murphy finds out that Peter is 7 years younger than she is and I love Murphys line."Thats also the amount of time it takes your body to go through a complete set of skin cells". "Do you know what that means?"Im a complete set of skin cells ahead of you"! Then I love what Peter says"I was going to be great tonight. "I would have been so great that you would have left your body 3 times and would be begging to get back in once you saw how much fun it was having"!

That's very freaky, since those are the two lines in the episode that really stood out for me, too!
I also liked: Frank: "I hope he was drunk and you were asleep!" Murphy: "No, Frank, that's YOUR sex life!" |

Quote:
(Murphy has a giant teddy bear sitting her secretary's chair) Murphy:Hey, there, Buckaroo, is this my new secretary? (Points to bear) Avery(Points to bear):You're fired! Murphy:Where do kids pick these things up?! And a little later on in that scene: Peter:Say "goodbye" to Miller, Avery. Avery:You're fired! Miller:He can't do that....can he?! Murphy:I can't name the baby until he becomes more of a person. Right now all he does is eat, sleep and whine. Miles:Then why don't you just name him Frank? Murphy:All my life, I never had to think about anyone but me. Now all of a sudden, I've got a relationship with someone who's even more self-centered than I am. Eldin:You hear that, Avery? You took out the champ! |

Right off the top of my head, one of my favorite quotes is from the Pilot, when Murphy tells Miles she's gonna have to educate him on Motown. She says, "Seriously Miles, those raisins didn't write that song."
I also loved her entire speech at the end of the episode "You Say Potatoe, I Say Potato" when she goes on her first broadcast after the Dan Quayle incident and addresses it. I can't remember the whole speech off hand but I thought it was brilliant. If anyone could find it and post it here that would be nice. God there are so many more that I'm just forgetting. I love the russian journalist quote about Rocky and Bullwinkle mentioned above. And in the final episode, when Frank is talking to Julia Roberts....Frank: "I feel it's fate that brought us together." Julia: "Well...fate and Warner Bros." Hopefully I'll think of more later. |
