Default The Commodores Shouldn't Perform Without Lionel Richie

I saw them performing last week on PBS channel 70's soul concert. Lionel sang lead on most of their hits. They can't get anybody to replace Lionel performing cause it doesn't look right. Walter Orange who sang lead on their hit songs Nightshift, Going To The Bank, Brick House is a good singer but it's not the same without Lionel. I saw them performing on Motown's 50th anniversary special last year & i thought Lionel was gonna perform with them since he hosted the show but he didn't. It would've been nice to see him reunite with them performing on that special.

You aren't the only one who was disappointed Isiah. I tuned into Motown 50, expressly for the purpose of seeing Lionel, Walter and crew sing at least one song together. Needless to say, I was in a pissy mood when it didn't come to fruition.

Lionel should retrieve the stick out of his ass and reunite with the Commodores 'cause he ain't had a hit in over fifteen years. Give the people what they want to see.

Don't you know, I would pay top dollar to see all six members reunite. I am not kidding. J.D. Nicholas and his British accent will not ever surprass or equal the chemistry Lionel, Walter, Ronald, Milan, Thomas And William created.

Did you see on VH1's Bands Reunited, a special in which they featured reunion that didn't happen. They managed to track down Milan Williams, long gone bandmates Thomas McClary (!) and Ronald LaPread (who's a bandleader on a talk show in New Zealand!). Unfortunately, only those three showed up. Bah!

I actually did like the song Nightshift, but it probably should've been a "farewell song" for them because outside of that song, they were like a chicken without it's head after Lionel left.

I actually did like Lionel's last album, his glory days are behind him but he still is capable of a good song here and there

You've raised a Good point, Buffy. "Nightshift" is a great song and I never thought of that as being a possible "farewell song" a la Diana Ross & the Supremes "Someday We'll Be Together". They could have spared us wack tunes like "United" or "Going To The Bank".

Man i wish i would've seen VH1's Bands Reunited when they talked to those 3 Commodores members you mentioned LadyBee. LOL@Lionel should retrieve the stick outta his ass hahahahahahahahahaha. He does need to reunite with them & give their fans what they wanna see. The Commodores had magic when Lionel was with them. I was listening to their Heroes album today. That's a very good album. Jesus Is Love, Old Fashioned Love, Celebrate songs were their hits on that album. I was disappointed in the last album Lionel did with them called In The Pocket. Lady(You Bring Me Up) was their last hit with him.

Heroes is a good album. Better than I thought it was going to be. I like "Got To Be Together", "Celebrate", and especially "All The Way Down" (an underrated funk classic). I was hesitant about hearing this one because I thought it would sound like In The Pocket.
You hit the haid on the nail when describing their last Richie album. It started out great with "Lady (You Bring Me Up) and "Saturday Night" (both of which the Commodores shot videos of) but after those two solid tunes, the rest are mediocre and boring. Their worst album by far. Bah!

Sorry To Say song i also like on Heroes album. I like the album cover of Heroes & i like the picture inside the album when you open it up. The group members have their shirts off lookin like they're lookin at the stars. Remember when albums used to open up back in the day with pictures inside? LOL. Midnight Magic & their self titled album that came out in 1977 are also very good Commodores albums. In The Pocket is definitely a boring album LOL. I bought it from the drug store on cd for cheap a month ago. I didn't know they had a video for Saturday Night until i saw it on VH1 about 3 months ago. The day i saw that video, it must've been a tribute to the Commodores cause they were showing other videos by them when Lionel wasn't with them. I went to Artistdirect.com one day & checked out all the albums The Commodores did. I was surprised to see they did at least 5 albums after Lionel left them. Do they really think anybody was checkin for them after Lionel left? Hahahahahahahahahahaha.

You're right, the Commodores was Motown's biggest funk group of the 70's ever. Lionel Richie sang most of their songs like "Just to Be Close to You", "Sweet Love", "Easy", "Still", "Brick House", "Sail On" and one of Commodores biggest hit "Three Times a Lady". The Commodores sang the last 2 songs in 1981 "Lady (You Bring Me Up)" and "Oh No" before Lionel went solo. Lionel sang a duet with Diana Ross on "Endless Love" from the movie of the same name. (I do have the movie with a young Brooke Shields and Kevin Bacon made his film debut.) Lionel Richie released his self-titled debut album in 1982 featuring "You Are" and "Truly". In 1985, the Commodores made a comeback with the album "Nightshift", their first and only album without Lionel Richie. The title song was the best. Lionel released a few albums during his post-Commodores career "Can't Slow Down", "Dancing on the Ceiling" and others.

Ladybee what's up with the tight jeans & shoes The Commodores were wearing on the back of In The Pocket album? LOL. I saw Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes performing last week on PBS channel 70's soul concert. Harold Melvin is dead & Teddy Pendergrass wasn't performing with them so how can they perform when nobody wants to see them without Teddy P? LOL. Teddy P sang lead on most of their hits. Who is that singin on their Hope That We Can Be Together Soon song? I don't understand why groups continue to perform & make albums after their star lead singers leave the group. Here's some examples i'm gonna give of groups who should've stopped performing & making albums when their lead singers left.

James Taylor-Kool & The Gang
Skip Martin-Dazz Band
Jeffrey Osborne-LTD
Michael Jackson-The Jacksons
Michael Cooper-Con Funk Shun
Bobby Brown-New Edition(i know he wasn't the lead singer but it wasn't the same without him)

I know. Even for the '80s that was tacky.

Re: to the inside cover of Heroes, that pic is infinitely a better photo option than the inside of their Caught In The Act album. They enclosed a floor shot of their tore up looking feet and their jewelry and cash. Scary site.
