Default 70's Blaxploitation Movies

I'm not a fan of the 70's black movies cause they definitely exploited blacks making us look ignorant like those Dolemite movies & The Mack. I did like Shaft, Coffy, Foxy Brown, Bucktown, A Piece Of The Action, Let's Do It Again, Car Wash. Sweet Sweetback's Badassssss Song is a terrible movie. I don't see what the big hoopla was about regarding that movie. I think people made a big deal about it because it was the first black independent movie done & Melvin Van Peebles did it on his own without any help from the movie companies. That movie was damn near a porno LOL.

My favorite 70s soul movies are Uptown Saturday Night, Let's Do It Again, Cooley High, Car Wash, (There was no story in that) That Bad asssssssss movie you mentioned didn't look that appealing. 70s baxploitation movies I guess were about black people finally started coming around adapting to culture, and recognizing who we were as black people. I wouldn't say stereotyping, I could be wrong.

What about "Black Caesar" & "Hell Up in Harlem?" Fred Williamson was the man!

Can somebody please explain the ending of Black Caesar to me? I saw some of the movie. I remember seeing Fred get shot at the end & he was stumblin down the street of New York. He ended up runnin through the projects where some young black kids beat him with baseball bats in a alley & took his jewelry. The movie went off after that. I was like, what the hell happened. Did he die?

Pam Grier was so hot back then especially in Bucktown movie. She had it going on back in the 70's with her cute self. She's gotten fat now.

I saw her in "Sheba, Baby" a while back and notice she was a little hottie back then. I guess she couldn't back up off the table recently. LOL

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. What's up with these black women that used to be cutie pies back in the day & now they're fat? Women like Chaka Khan, Pam Grier, Deniece Williams, Aretha Franklin. They need to learn from Jennifer Holiday & Kelly Price. Look at how fat they used to be & now they're skinny & cute. Kelly Price really looks good.

Aretha Franklin really let herself go. I ain't trying to be funny, but she looks like she weigh at least 300 pounds.

Fred didn't die because he starred in the sequel "Hell Up in Harlem". Two other Fred Williamson movies I like from the 70's is "Hammer" and "Black Eye".

I also liked the Cleopatra Jones movies lol "Truck Turner" with Isaac Hayes, and "Hit Man" with Bernie Casey. One of my favorites - "Detroit 9000" was on Starz! last night.

Do you know I've had Black Caesar on dvd for a couple years and haven't watched it yet. I've got that, Bucktown, Coffy, Foxy Brown, Sheba Baby, The Mack, Superfly, and my favorite Cleopatra Jones. I'm still waiting for Three The Hard Way to come out on dvd.

Coffy, Foxy Brown, Shaft, Superfly were some of my favorite movies from back in the day.

I haven't seen that many blaxploitation flicks, so I can't really form the opinion of whether they're exploitative or not.

I have seen...
"Superfly" (which was okay, not great. I esp. love the part where he beat that junkie like he stole something, resulting in what looked like cottage cheese that the junkie spat up.)
"Shaft" (I'm sorry, I couldn't get through this movie. It bored me to tears.)
"Foxy Brown" (I like this the best out of the one I've seen.)
"Coffy" (Alright.)
"Sheba, Baby" and "Friday Foster" (I get these two mixed up, but I've seen both.)
"Dolemite" (I'm sorry, I cannot take Rudy Ray Moore seriously. I kept rolling my eyes at this one. I only wanted to see it because ODB's "Got Your Money" video was almost totally comprised of scenes of this movie. Plus, how can the visible boom mics not distract you. )
"The Human Tornado" (Rudy Ray Moore *sigh* )
"The Mack" (This one was okay. I liked Richard Pryor's character the most. An entire movie with his character would have been so much better to sit through. )

Non-exploitation movies I've seen:
"Car Wash" (Love it even though the plot is at best, scattershot.)
"Let's Do It Again" (I love it. I got a kick out of learning where Biggie Smalls got his stage name from and seeing skinny ass Jimmie Walker kicking some ass. )
"Cornbread, Earl and Me (Boring and depressing. It's interesting to see a then 13-year-old Laurance Fishburne act.)
"Cooley High" (I like this one, but why Cochise? [sp?])
"Black Girl" (Annoying. If you've seen how those three sisters act, I think you may understand where I'm coming from.)
"Sparkle" (ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ)
"Youngblood" (I only saw the last 1/2 of it and found the footchase scene totally gripping. Music by War.)

Cleopatra Jones is one of my favorites too. Any movie where Shelly Winters is playing a villain named Mommy is sure to be a camp classic

Cool

The Shaft series is my favourite including its recent spinoff - love that Oscar winning theme song! (audio download: ram/32K mp3/128K)

Car Wash was the first film I went to see at the cinema without my parents, which still shows well and isn't blaxploitative by the way.
