Default Comedies and Dramas I can expect to be on DVD within a year or two

These shows have not been relesed yet, but several of them have very hiugh chances, and a few have an episode on DVD already. I believe that these will definitly get a release in the near future, even if not in the next year or two.

Comedies:

Facts of Life
Silver Spoons
Mama's Family
Perfect Strangers
Family Matters
Head of the Class
Wings

Dramas

Knots Landing
Falcon Crest

I think there is definitely a strong possibility of this being released, or at least announced, by the end of the year or next year. If not, I will be so surprised since it's like #8 on TVShowsOnDVD.com's Top 10 Most Requested Unreleased Shows list.

Silver Spoons
::shakes head:: I'm not so sure about that. I've heard that Sony is extremely reluctant to relase it because they believe it doesn't have a large enough audience. If it ever does get released, I wouldn't bet on it being anytime this year, or next year for that matter.

I would say that these have a better chance of getting released than Silver Spoons does, at least.

[QOUTE]Dramas

Knots Landing
Falcon Crest[/QUOTE]

I agree with Knots Landing, but who knows when or if Falcon Crest will be released.

The only other one I can think of is Family Ties.

We could see Silver Spoons actually first from that list. I wouldn't count on Joey being on DVD soon, unless it gets canceled. All new sitcoms seem to come out on DVD after they hit syndication. New dramas usually come out right away, though, since in syndication they only air on weekends.

That's true. I don't think that would be ever on 5 day a week syndication, though, and FOX knows that. FOX made a mistake releasing Reba and Bernie Mac last year, as both will be heading to syndication soon.

Mama's Family is quickly picking up speed on the list on TVShowsOnDVD.com.

In late 2003, both its rankings were over 150. As of right now, it's 22nd in unreleased rank, 51st in overall rank. We'll be seeing Mama's Family on that "top 10 unreleased" list pretty soon.

I hope we hear an announcement about it by the end of this year. Now would be a REALLY good time, because Vicki has been touring and doing "Vicki Lawrence and Mama: A Two Woman Show" since June of 2002. Her performances always get sold out really quickly and I keep hearing about young people that adore Mama.

Sigh ... I'm holding out.

I know, Mama's quickly rising in the ranks, it's very exciting! And I think we'll get that on DVD before we will The Carol Burnett Show. But if they do put Mama on DVD I want it done right. We know Vicki Lawrence loves the role, so I want to see some new interviews and commentaries. Can you imagine what some of the cast commentaries would be like?

Sadly, I don't think we'll ever see season releases for TCBS. They did 278 episodes over their 11-year run, and there are a LOT of music they would have to clear first. If they ever release them to DVD (of which I doubt will happen), the season sets would be mad expensive. So that's why I've opted for the TCBS DVD's that you can get through Columbia House. They're just as expensive, but you get a few episodes uncut. By the time I finish my collection, I'll have 44 uncut episodes. That's only 16% of their episodes. But still better than nothing, I suppose...

I agree, commentaries and other bonus features would be AWESOME. They MUST include the 1982 TV movie "Eunice" on there...I mean, that was the freaking pilot for MF. They've got to. My copy of "Eunice" sucks and I'd love a clear copy.

You're probably right. Hell, with TCBS, I'd take em without the music. They could just edit that part out. I'd just like the skits. If push came to shove I'd take the syndicated Carol Burnett and Friends episodes that air on TV Land on DVD. Or even best of type stuff, like have all the Family episodes on a dvd set, and all the Mrs. Wiggins episodes, etc. But Mama's Family we should hopefully be getting in full season sets in the next couple of years. And I would also like Eunice to be included. My copy is not very good either.

why is it a "mistake"? Reba won't be on Lifetime until fall 2006, in that time, the four released seasons will be available on DVD.

Amen! I have MF in just about every format now...VHS, VCD (all but about 10-15 episodes) and I'm not sure if I want to transfer them over to DVD yet. I'm going to have to wait on that first. Therefore, transferring them over is at the bottom of my priority list if they're that high on the unreleased list at TVShowsOnDVD.

I love that idea about a "Best of"...that would rock. Hell, if it ever comes out to DVD as season sets, I'd buy 'em all anyway...I'm just that devoted. I would REALLY like it if they released the TCBS series finale...it aired on March 29, 1978 and I managed to get a copy of it, but the quality is CRAP. It's a pretty great special.

All we can do now is be optimistic and wait for word on MF coming to DVD.

I think that's his point. If people buy the DVDs early on, they couldn't be bothered with syndication.

but a lot of people really don't watch syndication, when Roseanne came to N@N, it'd been my first time seeing those episodes since they were on ABC. Hell, even with Seinfeld on DVD, these are the first times I've seen these episodes in YEARS. I am all for shows being available on DVD and syndication at the same time, so the fans who want the show at their own disposal don't have to deal with grainy, choppy repeats that tend to show the same episode 7 times in a month.
