"AOL has posted new terms of service for AIM, that include the right for AOL to use anything and everything you send through AIM in any way they see fit, without informing you. A sample passage: '...by posting Content on an AIM Product, you grant AOL, its parent, affiliates, subsidiaries, assigns, agents and licensees the irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide right to reproduce, display, perform, distribute, adapt and promote this Content in any medium. You waive any right to privacy.'"

Triillian is just an IM client - all it does it provide the software to connect to AOL's servers and communicate with other AIM users, so anything that you send is fair game.

Basically what this means is that while AOL wouldn't OWN anything that you send (or post on their user forums etc) they have the right to do whatever they see fit with whatever it is.

Most likely they WONT have someone sitting there listening to your conversations - that would be next to impossible with the number of users, but they COULD flag certain words or phrases if they were looking for something specific, or use it to send you targeted advertising, or use excerpts of your conversations for their advertising or something - anonymously of course.
