Default I wonder if Martin Lawerence was a fan of these 1970's TV shows since they were

referred to on certain episodes.

Christie Love
Chico and the Man
Jeffersons
Donny and Marie
Good Times
What's Happening
Sanford and Son

He had to be a fan of those shows. He forever gave reference to Good Times. That must have been his favorite. I remember he told Gina that Florida Evans and Weezy Jefferson never worked. He called Tommy "Head" Sanford. In that episode where the spanish dude was about to be deported out of the country, he said, "Chico and the Man." I can't remember what he said about Christie love and Donny and Marie. Fred Berry appeared on there as himself, and Martin hummed the tune to What's happening! So yeah, Martin was a fan of these shows. He was born in 65, so he grew up with these shows.

He made a reference to Christi Love in the episode when he went shoe shopping with Gina and asked some woman-"are you going for that Christi Love look?

LaWanda Page was a guest a few times and Ja'net DuBois, Shirley Hemphill, Sherman Hemsley and John Amos all made guest spots. most black comedians do like Good Times, Sanford and Son, What's Happening and the Jeffersons.

He probably would have Redd Foxx on there as a guest if he was alive when Martin was on the air. But there is one Black Comedian who is not a fan of Good Times, Jeffersons, and Sanford and Son. That comedian would be BILL COSBY!!! who also didn't like Martin.

Bill Cosby doesn't know what he's talking about. Every black show can't be like the Cosby Show.

These were the first black situation comedies. So most black comedians pay their respect to these shows.

I would have loved to see Redd Foxx and Martin Lawrence together. Do you think Martin idolized Redd?

I know. Notice how no episode of the cosby show never made reference to any of those shows. But Martin made referenceto them all the time. I think someone said he didn;t like the Jeffersons because of George Jefferson and didn't like Good Times and Sanford and Son because it was about POOR blacks

Default References to 70's shows

Good Times got the most mentions. Even Martin as his mother used Florida's famous line "Damn Damn Damn" numerous times. They even had a tribute to The Love Boat on that twopart episode with them on the cruise ship. Even Pam and Martin eferenced the Damn Damn Damn episode.

I love Bill Cosby, but to his opinion regarding the black sitcoms, I say "What Ever". I could say negative things about Uptown Saturday Night and Let's Do It Again but I don't.

You are right about that, I remember Martin saying that when Tommy and Cole was sleeping, they looked like-"a Fake a$$ J.J and Michael"-LOL

can't forget the plot line where at the wedding, Pam signed where the bride was supposed to sign, and gina signed where the witness was supposed to sign. the exact same thing happened in sanford and son with fred/elizabeth/ester. ester signed on brides line and elizabeth signed where the witness signed and it turns out fred was married to ester and martin to pam.
