According to this article, Family Matters only placed in 108th place with 8.82 million viewers in its last season.

Yeah... the move to CBS killed it. It lost almost half it's total audience between the end of the 8th season and the 9th.

I just read all those articles on there... I still don't like the whole "ending without a finale" stuff. I never will. Yes... the ratings were horrible, yes it should have been cancelled, but they should have filmed a proper finale first. I'm not a big fan of the final season(mainly because what had been funny had gone out into the unrealistic category), but it was decent and it's still watchable 6 seasons later.

My problem with that final season is that most of the actors had left the show. When Harriet left I stopped watching and didn't start watching again until the summer leftover shows aired.

Yeah... I did not like Judyann Elder as Harriette. I don't think I was very keen on the final season when it aired on CBS, although I do remember watching the finale... it was strange because it was Mid-July.

I missed a lot of that final season but I do remember watching the Christmas show because Rachel, Ritchie and Mother Winslow were back.I think that was their last appearances.

According to the 1998 article, "Reruns air on WPIX (11), TBS and WGN". TBS and WGN does not air "Family Matters" anymore. ABC Family still air reruns on weekdays and WPIX in NYC still airs on weekends. The 9th season on CBS didn't do well in the ratings after the network move. Seasons 1-8 did well and the later seasons went down a little bit on another network, ABC.

I also did not like the last season because a lot of the actors were not on the show anymore: Rachel, the original Harriette, Mother Winslow Richie. The only episode I liked in the final season was the Christmas episode because they all appeared. The final season was basically "The Steve Loves Laura Show"

Ratings reached their peak in the second season when Urkel became a regular character.

It was CBS who cancelled it on the last possible moment, not the producers, directors, or writers of the show. The directors, producers, and writers all thought that it was comming back for a 10th season. Only to be told that the episode that they were filming Outer Space was the last episode make it a wrap folks, so they made it into a 2 parter and was cancelled by CBS.

That is why it never got a proper ending like Diff'rent Strokes also never got a proper ending either.

I know all of that... I've read about it before. I think they had actually finished filming all together. It was reportedly done in March but didn't air until July.
