Ok... my compture is acting very very odd. Internet exploer takes like 5 minutes to open up, and when it finally does, it freezes automatically, but Netscape browser works fine. Recycle bin, my documents, control panel, all the other Windows applets take a very long time to open... there is major delay. What is the deal? I've done a virus scan and spy ware scam, but nothing.. restart and shut down.. nothing.
anyone else have this problem? |

try to run Spybot and AdAware in SAFEMODE, and make sure that you do NOT have Internet Explorer open when you run it.

AdAware is free, and pretty easy to use - just download it and then install it in Safemode if possible. reboot your computer and tap on the F8 function key as it is booting up to get to the Startup Options menu - select SafeMode (highlight with the cursor arrow keys) and hit Enter. |

That's exactly what happens to me with my IE. It also happens with any type of file folder I try to open. I pretty much gave up on trying to fix anything related to my computer, so I just use my SBC Yahoo browser.
Just curious...do you have AIM? Does it take forever for that to sign on too? |

no, it doesn't take forever to log onto AIM... it takes IE longer than a year to open, along w/ all my other windows applets
I did that in Safe Mode, everything worked fine in safe mode, i ran spy ware,a nd rebooted in normal mode and it didn't fix anything. Any other advice? Please!!!!!!! |

different browsers work fine... i'm not worried about my browser, cause I can use NetScape... i'm more worried about my Windows components. I cannot get My Computer, or Control Panel, or Recycle Bin or any of the rest to open w/out having to wait 5 minutes, and then half the time they freeze when they open.

The only way I could get my pc working fine again was doing a full system recovery. You'll lose all the information saved and it can be a little pain in the @$$ to reinstall everything but sometimes it's the only option.

Have you tried deleting your temporary internet files and cookies? Sometimes those can slow it down.
