Maybe the dvd is delayed because of all the music rights that need to be secured. I know the DVD authors of Freaks and Geeks had an enourmous problem finding all the rights to songs featured in each episode, and i recently read about WKRP in Cincinatti's delay because of the same problem. I know FOL didn't have as much music featured as these mentioned shows, but it did have its share (Crusin, Gone with the wind part 1 & 2, Grand Opening, Atlantic City, Doowah, Tootie Drives, Christmas Baby, Off Broadway Baby, A Star is Torn, ect, all featured songs by 80s hit artists). Who knows why its taking so long, but this could be a factor.

I was thinking about this the other day actually. Well for right now they only have to worry about the 1st and 2nd season releases...not sure if much music was used (the thrilling disco number Tootie and her dance partner dance to at the end of "Who Am I" comes to mind but not much else)

I highly doubt that music rights is what is holding up the DVD release!

I agree. Maybe they're just trying to whet the appetites of FOL fans so when the DVD's finally do come out, they'll sell incredibly well and fast... I think the fact the Diff'rent Strokes was released is a very good sign.(let's hope!)

Maybe El DeBarge won't give the rights to use his music.

well, we got Diff'rent Strokes season 1, and there were two very popular late 70's tunes playing in the episodes that made it to the DVD (Le Freak by Chic and Disco Inferno by The Trammps).
If I recall correctly, the music in the "Cruisin'" episode in season 6 were actually soundalike recordings, the Dancing Queen wasn't the original ABBA recording and You've Lost That Loving Feeling wasn't the original Righteous Brothers. |
