I have a question. When you go to a job fair, i'm going to one tommorow, do you need a cover letter for your resume since you really have no clue who you are going to give it to? Or do you make a generic cover letter, "I am looking for an internship blah blah blah" and put it on all the resumes you hand out, or do you just give a resume.
Also, do you hand our references, or do you give it to them. I have on my resume "reference available upon request", but do you give it to them anyway at a job fair? any help would be great!

Maybe you should type up a list of references in case some potential employer asks one.

yea, I figured I would take a list of references and have them with me, incase anyway does actually "request" them ..
But what Do i do about hte cover letter? I thought about doing something like this: To Whom It May Concern: I am currently seeking an internship in the computer field that will help me to apply the concepts I have learned in the classroom. I feel that my outgoing personality and outstanding computer skills makes me an ideal candidate for your company. Thank you in advance for your consideration. Sincerely Yours, XXXXXXXXXXXXX |

Yeah, I'd have a copy of everything just in case. Some people might want it all, some might not want anything.
That cover letter looks good. If you haven't already sold all your specific skills in your resume, put more in that letter. Good Luck! |

I have been to many a job fairs during and since college all I can say is good luck
. You won't need a cover letter but you should have at least 10 to 15 copies of your resume just in case depending on how many companies you are interested in shows up. Job recruiters at these places will rarely if ever ask you for references at a job fair, but you should carry with you a a copy of references for yourself because sometimes they will ask you to fill out an application (don't ask me why they do this you'd figure the resume would be enough ) and you have to write in the application. Try to get there early sometimes the very companies you really want to see will leave early if they feel they seen enough people, And most importantly wear comfortable shoes because you will be walking around A LOT!! I hope this help and again good luck !!

well, talk about a waste of time!!! There were maybe, MAYBE 20 tables there, and half of them were from Wendys, Target, Burger King, and other jobs and i'm not even mildly interested in.. and the rest were telemarketers. I only gave my resume to one person, and only because she all but pushed me up against the wall wanting it.. i guess she was bored.
Oh well, at least I can say i've learned something. Hopefully a better one will come around |
