Is it possible to convert region 2 to regionless? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

This is probably a stupid question, but is it possible to convert a region 2 dvd to a regionless dvd or vhs? I have 2 dvds that I can play in my regionless player but I'd like to make a copy of the dvd for a friend who can only play region 1 or a vhs.

I have a dvd recorder but it only plays region 1. Any ideas? Thanks for any suggestions!

Yes, but only if you have a DVD burner. You can read in the region 2 dvd, and remove the region code restriction (change it to region 0). And then burn it back out with a region 0 setting.

But I don't believe you can do the same with standalone dvd recorders.

Hi,
another way to do this is connect your region free dvd player directly to your dvd recorder, burn a copy, it should be region 0 or 1 after coming out of your recorder. The only issue with doing it this way would be a slight loss in quality, sometimes not even noticeable depending on how good your source is. I have done this many times without issue. I have also used the computer burner method when I have something of sub par quality.

Yeah, I'm only able to do that with my computer's dvd burner. It allows to specify what region you want. Generally the default is set to zero.

My Daytek standalone dvd recorder allows you to record region/macrovision free.

Taking away the region coding on a dvd player is easy.

Just look up the code on here:

http://www.dvdrhelp.com

and it will allow any dvd player to play any region dvd.

If your trying to play and record the dvd, you'll have problems with 50-60 line conversion. In which case, its easiest to just buy a new dvd player with a built in line and region convertor. Most of the cheaper models have it already built in, just look them up on the site listed above.

Tom, can you let me know how to connect the player to the recorder? I haven't done it before

Agent 12 - Go to the DVD Hacks link on that site to see the hacks. But not every one listed has a hack. My dvd recorder doesn't have a hack listed.

ku7uk - That's where I got the hack for my player, but it doesn't have a hack for my recorder. Oh well. Thanks, tho. I don't usually get region 2 dvds, just when the particular extra stuff I want is only on those regions.

ok,
I have a Hacked Apex AD 1500 that is both region and macro free. I have it connected to my dvd recorder via S vid input and rca cables. you just connect like any other vcr type component. (DVD Players output to DVD Recorders input)
