Star claims N.Y. man stalked her at 'SNL

Janet Jackson has a nasty problem of her own - she claims she's been stalked for years by a New York fan who showed up at her "Saturday Night Live" rehearsal carrying a box-cutter and a knife, court papers allege.

"It is only a matter of time before he has the opportunity to harm me," Jackson said in an affidavit for a restraining order against Robert Gardner, 46, who's said to live in New York and who allegedly has been harassing Michael Jackson's sister for nearly 10 years.

Jackson's lawyers filed the papers seeking protection in a Santa Monica, Calif., court last week.

Gardner claimed in one of his most recent faxes to her that he is living in New York, and working in Brooklyn for the Doe Fund, a nonprofit group that helps the homeless find jobs and shelter.

Gardner couldn't be located yesterday, and officials of the Doe Fund weren't available for comment.

The "Nasty Boys" singer alleged a chilling series of letters and phone calls from the hulking, 300-pound Gardner, starting in 1996 when he said he wants "a family with you."

According to the court papers:

# Despite often telling her he was living in shelters, Gardner somehow managed to afford to hop around the country from New York to California to track Jackson's public appearances.

# In 1999, he asked Jackson to give him $70,000 for a house loan. He also claimed to some of her handlers that he had done work for her and needed to get paid. But the contacts had a darker side, creating a "fabricated personal history," Jackson claimed.

"Mr. Gardner's attempts to contact me often contain disturbing sexual references," she said.

# In January 2004, he promised Jackson that he would be there for her brother Michael's next court appearance for the sexual abuse case against him. A month later, he wrote, "It's been three years since we have been intimate," and showed up at one of her brother's homes trying to crash a party.

# In April 2004, Gardner showed up at Rockefeller Center while Jackson was rehearsing her "SNL" appearance - where she poked fun at her Super Bowl "wardrobe malfunction" - and tried to get in.

Security guards stopped Gardner, who was carrying a "duffel bag with what seemed to be everything he owned," including a knife, a large pair of scissors and a box-cutter.

# Finally, last month, he faxed Jackson saying he was flying to Los Angeles for the Grammy Awards and wanted to meet her.

In addition to herself, Jackson wants Gardner barred from contacting her family and her employees. A hearing in the case is set for March 17.

It amazes me how a person that works at a homeless shelter has that much money to travel around the country to stalk her. He needs a woman badly so he'll leave her alone LOL. I don't like to hear about anybody gettin stalked.
