Car going down the road with a half of tank of gas and 3 flat tires-LOL That should have been the finale for the series period. There was nothing else to do at that point, it had been on for ten years and that's quite an accomplishment for any tv sitcom. I just no point in continuing this show after those two characters moved to Japan.

I still enjoyed the show. It wasn't as good as its earlier years but I still could watch it and even then its better then any comedy currently airing on TV.

I guess since these characters were no longer being seen made the show look like it had ran it's course

I just wish Mike Evans had stayed away oce he left the show. Returning 4 years later was just odd to me. |

Do you mean when they filed for divorce in the last season or when they stopped being credited in the opening in year 8? The divorce was almost near the end of the series anyway and the show had long since become tired and the actors looked their age with wrinkles and dyed hair- but personally I liked the 8th season- it had very funny episodes like the Strays, the one with the Whittendale's dog committing suicide and the one with Lynn Moody as the hooker in the bar. But year 9 was when it began to go into the toilet and it became quite noticeably like a shadow of its former self and got worse in years 10 and 11. Lionel and Jenny brought some youth and vitality to the show and Jenny without Lionel in years 8 and 9 just looked out of place.

I think the show was still good in season 11, not as good at the earlier seasons but it was still good. the ratings were good for CBS. Lionel and Jenny made their final appearences in ep. 242 which was only a few episodes before the show plus they had not been regulars since 1981 and only were on a few times after. I think the show was allowed to run it's course and ended at the right time.

When Mike Evans came back to The Jeffersons for the 79-80 season the show was still good. It look like the early seasons when he came back. I personally thought him and Berlinda Tolbert, Jenny, were more compatible than her and Damon Evans. I wish there would had been more storylines with Lionel and Jenny in their dealings with their parents and as parents after Jessica was born. After Mike Evans left the show was beginning its downward spiral. When George toned down the edge was gone. Louise became increasingly annoying to watch and hear. I liked Helen Willis. She was a much stronger character than Louise Jefferson and she had her own opinions and positions.
In the final season, 84-85, when Evans and Tolbert came back for the two-parter announcing their divorce the fighting between the Jefferson's and the Willis' looked a lot like the early episodes except Louise and Helen were going at it. It was funny. I think Mike Evans was an underrated actor. He was excellent in the role of Lionel and brought a lot to the character. His sarcasm towards Archie and George was a total scream. |

I don't recall a lot of sarcasm from Lionel toward his father. |
