Default Should they have changed the title?

After Steve took over the show, do you guys think they should have changed the title to Urkel Matters or The Nerd Next Door or something like that, because after Urkel came, it was no longer a show about a Family's everday problems.

No it should have stayed the way it was. I actually think-"The Winslow Family" would have been an idea for another title for this show.

I agree Simpson Fan they should have changed the title of the show to either "Urkel Matters", or "The Steve Urkel or/Jaleel White Show. Because the show was no longer "Family Matters" Or maybe even "Urkel's Neighbors"

I know that when Fonzie took over Happy Days, they were considering changing the title to Fonzie's Happy Days, but they didn't go through with it.

That's because the entire cast, including Henry Winkler, threatened to resign from the series if the title was changed.

I don't agree with this at all. Of course, Steve became the most important character. But there was always room for the Winslows too. Even in the awful 9th season, there were some non-Steve-related storylines, like Eddy becoming a cop, or Greta and Myrthle fighting over Eddy, or Carl and Harriette adopting 3J. So no, they shouldn't have changed the name.

I remember back in the 90's there were a lot of people who referred to the show as the Urkel show. But there were a lot of storylines about the family.

Yes that's true. I don't think the 9th season is bad. Anyway, there was always room for the others. Like Eddie being a cop, that's interesting. Eddie and Carl had a lot of father-son conerversation in the last season.

Back in the late 90s, when this show was shown on a Norvegian TV channel called TV Norge, they simply called the show "Steve". And that's what we usually call it in my family too. But since he actually wasn't planned to be a central character in the beginning (he actually didn't appear until 13th episode, I believe), and since the show was always about the Winslows (except Judy ) too, I'm glad they didn't change the name.

very true
when i wanted to watch family matters i would actually say "I want to watch Steve Urkel"

Cant blame Jaleel for any of this. He was paid to do something and the things the producers told him to do and he did it. If the other stars of the show were pissed off it was only through ignorance and jealousy.

IMO if it wasnt for steve, Family matters wouldnt of lasted as long and kept those people in work so they should be thankful.

I don't like the 9th season, because Steve dumped Myra for Laura. Not to mention how having a new actress playing Harriette is a turn-off too. But you're right about Carl and Eddy being interesting in that season.
