Default Committed "The Burger Episode" Talkback

A little late, but whatever.

Quote:
NATE & BOWIE'S QUEST FOR A BURGER LEAVES A BAD TASTE IN MARNI'S MOUTH -- Nate (Josh Cooke) loses a bet to Bowie ( Darius McCrary) and has to buy him a $29 hamburger from an upscale restaurant. On their way to the restaurant, Nate gets into an argument with a homeless man at the ATM and accidentally knocks him down. Marni (Jennifer Finnigan) witnesses the incident and gets the mistaken impression that Nate was deliberately cruel to an innocent vagabond. Nate spends the rest of the afternoon trying to befriend the homeless man to get back in Marni's good graces. Tammy Lynn Michaels and Tom Poston also star.

The homeless guy stole the show. The rest? Better than the past two or so episodes, but not all that great. It's obvious from the tone of the episode and the character interaction that this was meant to be the second episode.

I have to say that with episodes like this; committed proved itself to be a worthy comedy with a lot of potential and makes me wonder why, with hilarious scenes such as the homeless guy scene with nate advising him on better ways to get money off people, makes me wonder why it only lasted one season . . . totally funny episode, beaten only by the singing in the penultimate episode.

The burger episode was great! I'm glad Nate & Marnie had a reunion of sorts on "Better with You," but I wish "Committed" had lasted longer than 13 episodes. Problem was NBC was running through sitcoms faster than toilet paper at that time, and I think the show was just TOO offbeat and un-PC to catch on. (I mean, the show had off the wall lines like "Babies are just so cute and innocent and they have no idea they'll be dead someday!;" and "Old people seem sweet until you realize most of 'em are racist!") The one and only aspect of the show I didn't like was Todd, who was monumentally obnoxious and the focus of way too many episodes.
